When should I start the story line?

As I said the other day I just started and have only played a few hours just to learn the interface. I am a breton mage so I have joined the mage guild and met the first guy. I have completed one quest from the mage guild and that opened up tasks with the story line guy. My question is should I continue doing tasks for the mage guild before I start taking on task for the story line? I plan to play pretty much non-stop this weekend and I was wondering how difficult it would be if I started on the quests right away for the story line.

I think the mage quests are easier than the blade quests, or at least less work=less running all over creation.

Don't worry about the quests, you can do mage guild first/second or together with the blade quests. I seemed to do whichever quest i thought was the easiest at the time.
