Access Violation in Gothic after SBLIVE Update and Patching

Ok: i played Gothic for some time and all works ok. Then i thought: maybe i should patch the game. ok i patch it to 1.08k.
Then i updated my sblive value to the newest drivers.
From now on gothic always crashes after a couple of minutes WITH player activity.
When i do nothing, it won´t crash.
It seems to happen mostly in the old camp. Sometimes i can wander around in the wilderness and it works for some more minutes...
Very strange...

Does someone knows what i can do? I already tried to reinstall gothic and to play it without patches AND i deinstalled my SBLive Drivers.. nothing helps.

My System specs: P3/733, 256RAM, Geforce2, SBlive value

I put the AccessViolation ErrorMsg at the end of this message.

Thanks for your help in advance.

You could try to install the Mod Player Kit. It updates Gothic´s sound system.

You should also try to set your sound provider to DirectSound HW and disable reverb.

Try to reduce the hardware acceleration for the sound system (in DxDiag).

ps: does the game run correctly if started with sound disabled (in GothicStarter)?

Try getting the latest drivers for your sound card...
If all else fails, reinstall Gothic...

Your problem is somewhat suspicious =)
Because the crash dump above clearly says it happend inside the renderer while processing 3D code ... usually this should not happen if the problem raises from sound only.
Therefore I tend to think something goes wrong with DirectX too (due to the changed hardware).
However, it's really easy (as developer) to point to DirectX or driver developers - but I have no other idea yet =)
Just give it a try and reinstall DirectX to be sure. There are known problems especially with SBLive - so you should try to reduce the hardware acceleration (sound only), which solved the problem on some systems.

ps: you might mail me your zipped [gothic]/system/gothic.RPT

More problems with Gothic

Hello, The last weekend i bought gothic, here in Spain, it's the international version with subtitles in Spanish. Well, The game was installed with no problem, both CDs, and then, I played 4 or 5 hours, then the game crashed to deskotp (sounds familiar,uh?), since then, the game crashed everytime i tried to play it, but after a lot of time (2 3 or 4 hours).

Surfing in the gothic website, I found a collection of patches, including a Kyro2 fix (as I have one this really wonder me, 'cause I didn't have any graphic problems with the game), and 3 updates (1.07c, 1.08h & k) as my version was the 1.08j and all in the page was german (wich I didn't understand a lot) i didn't download anything (Is the Int'l version patched to something or kyro-fixed?????).

Of course, my SBLive drivers are the last, for win XP, downloaded in july (the 50mb pack).

Well, then here I found the answer (I thought) to my problem, and as before was said, i downloaded the 1.08k player kit, installed it... and the game crashes as I start to play, 3 or 4 minutes after or so. Then I restarted Gothic WITHOUT sound and music... voilá... 3 hours playin' and nothing strange happened... unbelievable... then I suppose (as it was said here) I have to reinstall DirectX to fix it... BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have win XP, and i've heard somewhere that the directX 8 are part of the OS, so you CAN'T reinstall it... it's true??

I don't want the BSOD, so i prefer to ask before reinstall directX... and i prefer that versus a fantastic system reinstall...

Lots of thanks, and if this is answered in other post, please, tell me wich one is, so I can read it.

The BlackMiG

The Kyro fix was 1.08i. Patch 1.08k was only meant to fix startup problems with GeForce3 and newer Radeon cards.
The Mod Player Kit updates the sound system used in Gothic.

I don´t have XP. AFAIK DirectX can´t be uninstalled, but you can install newer versions over older versions.
Please don´t take this for granted. It´s your system you´re playing with.
