Chapter 1 Help - Alchemy & fighting |
|
Hi - firstly like to say I have not had this much fun in a CRPG since Ultima 7! (missed out on gothic 1). I like the wilderness in particular even if I do get killed more often than not by orcs ....
Anyway I have not long joined the Militia and doing some town quests. However I want to learn alchemy from constantine as I gather this is a very usefull skill .... I got all the herbs, but he wont give me the option to teach me it. Is this as I already signed up with the blacksmith previously? Does this mean I will never now be able to learn the basics of alchemy or at least not some of the better potions?
Also I have 30 str and 20 LP - I have a crude bstard sword which needs 45str with 45 dam. However is it more worthwile to increse my skill to 30% on 1 handers? (and keep using my fine longsword 35 dam for now)
Any help would be great, thanks for your time,

no, there are more people that are able to teach you this skill: sagitta the herb witch (cave near onars farm (tip, it's near a innos shrine - get a shrine map at harbor)) the ther is neocras or something like that (in the monastery basement) and vatras (only chapter 6) at the ships alchemy room.

No, you will be able to learn alchemy. There are two teachers in Korinis: Constantinos and Ignaz (you can find him in harbour area). I completed a quest for Ignaz, he teached me first alchemy recipe. After that I could go and learn at Constantinos even without completion of herbs quest. Remember, he asked do you already know any alchemy recipes?

As you wish. 1h is faster and less dmg, 2h is vice versae.
Main thing, do not speak to smith in barracks until you join militia!!!
There is a bug. _________________

Thats cool - I will get the basics from the Alchemist in the harbour.
I notice when you increase the combat skill of a weapon to 30% your character swings it better. Is it actually any faster? iknow it increases your critical hits etc.
Also as a paladin should I just concentrate on STR and combat skill and then do magic later when i get runes? I have a composite bow i found with dex 40 requirement but presumably its not worth investing as I will be using magic ....
This game really reminds me of Ultima 7 except its so much more "up to date" . So many hidden places and rewards for exploring and "stumbing" across caves.
Thanks for all the help!

Let me try to explain things to you, I am however just lvl 7, so I donno much about what happends later in the game but:
- you can become apprentice of one of the teachers. People suggest hunter, as you can sell hides and stuff to him for good money. You can still learn alchemy and some other skills.
- You can join militia > later become paladin or you can join mercs > later become dragon fighter.
- you can still join tief guild regardless of being militia or merc.
Pala can use some runes, merc is more fighter type, and only mage can create runes.
I donno much about mages. _________________

It is only slightly faster, but you will now be able to do a better (4-hit) Combo, and, as you already noticed, it will also increase your critical hit rate, which is identical to the percentage of your skill (so 50% skill = 50% critical hit rate).

Depends on if you want to be a heavy magic user as a Paladin (which takes a bit the fun out of the game since most everything which is your enemy will succumb very fast to the Paladins combat spells), or if you would like to have a backup long-range weapon. The choice is up to you. What you should do is to get a high strength rating (Oh, and do save up on the any items that give you permanent strenght until you have reach at least Strenght 90), and Mastery (100%) in one of the two close combat weapons.

Never played Ultima 7, but there are some caves which only will yield a few Exp (and sometimes hard gained Exp at that), and other which will hold very useful treasures (which are sometimes even harder to get to than in the caves for Exp only). |
