I can't do damage to anything with a bow if I'm more than 10 feet away. Of course, 10 feet isn't very far for an angry monster to travel... and I'm still fumbling to draw my sword as my corpse hits the ground.
Also, hitting moving targets? Possible? Do I just need lvl 2 bow skills? |

Get more dex so you can buy bows that does a lot of damage. and get the bow skill mastered.
but if you wanna go for the high damage then master crossbows and buy one. they give more damage than a regular bow. I ended up with a crossbow that gave 96 in damage and almost never missed with it no matter the monster.

Given that melee weapons get bonus damage from str, and magic hits really hard on its own, bows do the least damage out of the 3.

If you will have better dexterity, bow skill and bow (and you will have it later), you will be able to kill enemy from distance. But now, you are beginner...

I thought that dexterity gave you a increase in damage the same that that strength does in melee? |

Nope
Str is ONLY for Sword (melee)
Just like DEX is only for Bows (Archery)
Mana is only for Magic (more mana doesnt = more dmg, just more chances to inflict the dmg)
