Magica not restored when resting

When I rest, my magica is not being restored.
Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

It is getting pretty expensive to buy those magica-restore-trinkets now...

You must have chosen the sign of the Atronach (sp?) then. That sign causes you to be unable to recover magika via resting.

So what exactly do sign of atronach players do without magic heal? I'm a shadow (which by the way is one of the most useless signs) so I'm just wondering. Do you have to pay every time you want to recharge? Or find some magic slinger to pick on?

I know this has been discussed before, but a thorough answer wasn't given about how atronach mages handle themselves. I'd appreciate it if someone could inform me on how to play a mage who can't get his mana back by resting

Potions are the only way, I think...

Potions or the fact that the sign allows the mage to absorb spell damage into magicka.

I have the same problem. SOmeone suggested me to use those small shrine. For 35 golds some of them cast a blessing or something on you. You can absorb some spells. Once, one of those blessing resplenished all my mana.

Also when I fight ash magic monsters, I usually stay far, and I let them cast spells at me, once in a while I heal myself with a spell. After a while they'll come at you to fight you hand to hand.

Adronach sux so far, but I think it will be usefull later on in the game (I hope so)

Ow. There aren't very many magic casting monsters right now, so atronachs will have a hard time starting out.

So, is it only Atronach that stops mana from being restored while resting?

I will start again with another sign.
Just 30 hours of gameplay wasted
At least now I know what to do ...

Dude...

With 30 hours in you've seen a "summon ancestral ghost" spell by now.

Buy it, enchant a ring/amulet with that spell and summon the ghost everytime you need mana. Just punch the ghost 3-4 times to get it hostile against you then sit there and let it cast fire at you for a few seconds. Kill it in melee, repeat, *poof* your mana is full.

Ooh, I like that idea. It may be considered a little cheap though, but maybe not

My Atronach mage has had no trouble...

The key is those temples: if you join the temple (Tribunal Temple or Imperial Temple, I joined both), the donation drops to 5 for Tribunal or 10 for Imperial. Last night I finally advanced in the Tribunal Temple so that my donation is zero, so now I can get recharges for free at will.

To make the temples truly useful, I purchased the Mark, Recall, and Almsivi Intervention spells. Now when I'm adventuring, I cast Mark at a safe "staging point". When I am low on magicka, Almsivi Intervention gets me to the nearest temple to recharge, and Recall gets me back into the action.

I also grab (and brew, now) Restore Magicka potions to save my bacon in combat. I had a rough time last night escorting someone to Koan Cave...after I accepted the mission, I realized he might not like it if I teleported away.

My main charachter is melee oriented but I'm also trying out mage types. I thought a good combination would be magica stunted with a high elf. Maybe being weak against magic would help absorbing even more magic. Toast. Back to the drawing board.

Summon ancestor seems a little cheesy but I like the temple idea. I gues I better start moving down the road. Great game.

I'm playing a high-elf Atronach mage and it's quite fun. I have more magicka than any other starting character. The trick in playing this character is not to waste spells frivolously. Don't throw fireballs at rats, and mudcrabs. Break out your fists or a weapon to do the job. As others have mentioned, get mark, recall, almsivi and divine intervention spells ASAP.
Choosing alchemy as a major is also a good idea, but remember restore magicka ingredients are fairly rare. Fortify magicka ingredients are much more common and can also recharge your energy quite well. If playing as an alchemist, don't weigh yourself down with anything heavier than light armor. You're going to carry ingredients and the weight adds up. Make yourself a stockpile somewhere, I've never had anything disappear in the game, and keep your ingredients and alchemy equipment there. I use the crates outside the Mages Guild in Balmora, personally. My alchemist character always has as much money as he wants without ever endangering himself much. Finding a good alchemy set is vital though. I'm playing with a masters set, but there are better ones available in the game. Feel free to ICQ or email me if you have any questions!
