SWG: Character Respec Period Extended

Since SOE bombed 'Star Wars Galaxies' back into beta with the Combat Upgrade on April 27, they have now announced that the respec period will be extended for another six days. The original plan was a 14-day respec period which changed to 21 days and now players get an additional six days to test templates or -let's face the cruel reality- to exploit the living hell out of the respec system (by converting several lower level boxes into higher level ones on respec every 12 hours). The new end of the respec program "coincides" with the release of the Total Experience package by the way.

Moriendor. Your news blogs are quite often so far from objective I have to grin. This one in particular is a scathing commentary. I think the DOT sites would be better off not becoming one of the countless "news" sites bathed in cynicism and anger. Every forum on the internet pertaining to gaming is a clone of the next.

I post quite often here lamenting the decay of journalism, mostly in the form of the myriad of amateur reviews crawling around.

Christine Amanpour always impressed me. She would deliver lines like "6 hostages have been executed" and "The delegates from Israel have just arrived" with the exact same indifference. Her job, she understands with clarity, is to report events.

MMORPGdot and RPGdot are the first two bookmarks in my favorites menu. They are stalwart portals to the chaos of the PC gaming community and I hope, an emotionally immune portal.

I think "quite often" is an overstatement but I'll let Moriendor comment for himself, other than to say that our approach has not changed -- at least not in the last couple of years. Also "journalism" and "opinion" are not mutually exclusive terms or goals.

As an aside, I was once called a "drone" by one professional gaming journalist because we so rarely express an opinion - while not directly related to your comments, readers come to a site like ours with different expectations.

Would have to agree with Dhruin that "quite often" is a major overstatement . Depends on which newsbits you're reading though. I'll admit that SWG newsbits do have a bit of ranting every once in a while and I may occasionally have made fun of all the misery surrounding the release of Mourning (Realms of Torment). But that's it. I swear .

Honestly, I'm trying to keep the news as objective as possible but it doesn't always work when SWG is involved because I've been playing the game since launch and it sometimes just breaks my heart what SOE is doing to the poor game (none of the above, i.e. what I wrote in the actual newsbit was factually wrong)

Oh well, I'll just try even harder to apply the same degree of objectivity to SWG (and Mourning) as to the rest of the newsbits. Wish me luck .
