I'm a long time player but a total n00b to the forums. I've been reading for a long time though. I admire the writings of our wonderful fan fiction authors and have decided to put in my own piece of writing. It's not quite finished as I'd like to refine the story a bit more. My reason for posting is that I'd like some input from the other forum members as to what they'd like to see in a new fan fiction. Don't go overboard now. I haven't decided whose perspective I'm writing from yet. Should it be from a character's perspective or should I invent a new character? Please, gimme some input, I'd love to hear what you'd want in a new fanfic.

Do what you please, Major... do what you please in your fanfic!

Just be sure to remain true to your style...

I for my part like both, fanfic with existing characters and that with new ones.

If you're done with writing/editing your story, Major, send it to me at jaz.tarn@gmx.de and I will see to it that it is put up.

I agree with Jaz. When it's up, post it, and we'll give you good feedback as well.

When you´re done please send it to Jaz. Prefered file format is .txt because it has no overhead and can easily be converted to HTML.
You can illustrate your story with pictures if you want.

A little thing: don't make the "hero" superpowerful. I can't stand reading about a hero so good everything seems like dirt compared to his awesome powers.

Take LotR.. why can't games be more like it, where the "hero" isn't a superhero with superpowers. The most powerful is Elrond, and in Gothic it should be Lee, Cor Angar, Xardas or Gomez.

Also, I hope you write something about WHY he developes, instead of the "first I had a hard time killing a goblin, and then I took out a troll".

I'm used to analyzing texts, and books, so I'll be sure to give some real feedback(I can even make sure a friend of mine within that sort of business reads it.. he's got the power to get it in one of the norwegian magazines as a short story).

I disagree with Maylander, I can't stand the "Anyone could be me" hero. I like heros to be larger than life, over the top, types. Give me Superman with a dark past and a sullen streak any day!

But, as Jaz and Val said, it is and should be whatever feels right to you! Good luck! I can't wait.

Even Superman has a weak side, but the guy made in Gothic doesn't.

Give him an army, and he'll defete it without any problems.

Give him a huge, 3 tonn monster, and he'll laugh at it.

Give him a God, and he'll yawn saying - this guy bores me so I'll kill him.

My favourite fantasy-series of all time is the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan where Rand is pretty mighty(the most powerful living thing except the Dark Lord).
Rand developes, and becomes stronger and stronger because he's the Dragon Reborn, but he's never invincible, and he could always use the help of his army.

The guy in Gothic(in the end of it, when you have 700HP and 150 in strength) wouldn't be fun reading about.

I understand that you feel that way, you've mentioned it in quite a few of your posts. I'm sorry, though, I simply don't agree. If the hero isn't the absolute best, then to me they aren't a hero. I don't like the reluctant hero, the accidental hero or the lucky hero.

I hate JCVD films for that very reason, at the end he always gets lucky after nearly being killed by the antagonist. I can't stand that.

I liked the fact that Gothic was easy at the end! I hated the begining for being so hard! The balance was great for me, the payoff was being the best.

Everyone's opinion is valid, your's and mine are just different. I've never challenged your viewpoint in any other thread because it's perfectly valid. I only bring it up here because you told someone who was asking for suggestions to tailor their work to your tastes. The story you like, I happen to dislike, no problem. I just wanted Major to realise that there are those who feel differently than you do, that's all. Peace.
