Hiring parties...

It's unfortunate we can't really hire people to join our party in Gothic. I'm playing Dungeon Siege now and hiring guys to form a small army is fun!

But it also can help you fulfil quests your character isn't equiped to handle.

Say you're trying to be a mage... but one quest requires a lot of hacking and slashing... brute stength kinda' thing. Just hire two warriors and complete that quest, despite it not being for your character class.

I know they gave some help during the focus quests... but it's not really the same... there was no choice there. If you didn;t join up with them the story would not proceed.

Personally I prefer having my character be alone for most of the game. I don't need a bunch of drones following at my heels. It's me against the world. Not me and an army against the world.
Besides, having a 'party' would not fit the atmosphere and feeling of Gothic. Your all alone. Your surrounded by criminals. You need to look out for number one.

I would say that having a party can be benefitial in some situations, but most of the time I prefer to be alone.

Do you go right? Or do you go left? A simple decision, yes? No ambiguities. Only the dream of the path not taken! And so one might stand in this place and contemplate for a long while. What will I miss if I go left? What will I lose if I go right? And in my indecision, have I chosen a worse fate?

I would prefer to be able to have a party but I only want to control myself not four people at once.
You should be able to make friends and have people join you on your quest. This should be optional though, not part of the story. I hope its like this in Gothic 2

Yeah. We should be able to get some friends to help us out, but boot em' when we no longer want them. Or perhaps we can pay people on a per mission basis. You don't pay... they no longer follow you after the mission in done.

So at least if you're some thin, weak mage.. you can hire a buff warrior to whack on a golem with his hammer!
