Try speechcraft, raise your reputation more. The reputation based npc system in MW is so much more complex. In general, the Gothic npcs just LOOKED good, but werent anything. In MW, you can change their complete attitude. Its a shame people judge about this after playing a measily 3 days.

exspecially considering after 3 days of MW you haven't seen more then 1/80th of the game and 1/5 the land mass.

I clearly said that I could be wrong, had to play the game more, etc. These are just my initial impressions

My biggest complaint really is having to sort through all the same topics with each character. It'd be nice if unique threads could be highlighted a different colour or be put somewhere else, you know?

But that wouldnt make sense. In real life you dont know who is important and who isnt as well. Maybe that guy across the street has work for you, but maybe he hasnt, You wont find out till you speak with him, and if your real life speechcraft is too low, then he might not unlock the 'I have work for you' phrase.

I understand where your coming from, and am not saying your wrong for wishing that it was easier to sort the somebodys out from the nobodys, all im saying is that some people apreciate the realisim involved in hunting down the important people and maybe hesitateing before offing that commoner for the hell of it because just maybe he is key in a quest my char wants to complete and such. I'm sure you understand what i'm saying or I'd go on......and on.

It's so far from being comparable to "real life" that your argument doesn't really stand. In real life I can't go into anyone's house and ask them questions. In real life people don't have a menu of topics that I can choose from. In real life, if I ask two individuals about their baking career, they won't both tell me the exact same thing about baking.

I am Paradoxx btw, I just got sick of typing Paradoxx every time I post...I know I should register, in fact I already did, but Im to lazy to log in, don't bother explaining that it would be easier to log in and thus not have to type your name etc in every time you post.....it just part of the insanity that is me.

Alright, I make it easier for you. The important dudes wont have big red waving flags while yelling "look at me! I am important". Never. The way it is now is what the designers thought to be the best for the game, and a lot of people agree with it. You dont like it? Fine, your choice. But it is not a bug, it isnt a flaw, it wont be patched.

You have to WORK to get anywhere in MW. The real power isnt just lying on the street. If you dont like it that way, play FF9.

No it does stand, and for one reason, because I wasn't debating that MW presents a world that is comparable to reality all I was saying is that some aspects of the world are realistic, in real life you cant kill demons with a sword, in real life you can't cast magic, in real life you cant ride on giant fleas...I grasp this concept and did before I wrote the above statement, and no perhaps 2 people wouldn't tell you the "EXACT" same thing if you asked the both "what do bakers do?" but I bet most of them would say "they bake" in which ever format they chose (they cook cakes and other things, they make bread and muffins etc.), and seeing as MW is indeed not reality as you so graciously pointed out this is the closest to realistic we could ask for, exspecially considering that yes some of the NPCs in Morrowind will tell you something completely different then "bakers bake" probably proportional to the ammount of people in reality who would tell you something completely different.

You're missing my point. I am not saying there should be a red flag over anyone's head (although didn't Summoner do something like this?). I simply want a way to differentiate between the unique topics of conversation and the ones that every other npc has. For instance I was in Balmora recently and each NPC had like three pages of topics, all pretty much the same stuff. So much that making a mental note isn't really an option. So what, should I have to write down a detailed log of what topics are common in this town? Should I have to go up to each NPC and ask them about everything in the list? I think that is a bit tedious.

Further more, what I was trying to point out about the static answers being a feature is exactly what you pointed out about the gothic NPCs AI not being amazing yet still help you to be immersed At least I can ask the goddamn baker how is carrer is going, instead of for the entire game having him tell me, GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN I'm busy, or Hello would you like some muffins" as the static NPCs in gothic would.

You just dont seem to understand MW. You will find out the topics if you talk with them. That guy across the street might consider commiting suicide, but he wont tell you immediately. It takes TIME and PATIENCE to see who is important and who aint.

You seem like a person who always want the quick&fast way. Then I fear MW is not for you. I dont have a prob with that at all, but lets face it, are you really looking for the type of game MW is?

I'm not sure, that's what I have been trying to figure out. If I knew any of this before going out and buying MW, I might have thought twice. I'm sure there must be others out there who feel the same way, so I think this thread is useful in that regard.

I do plan to keep playing since I am enjoying it otherwise. There seems to be a thin line between "challenge" and "unnecessary pain in the ass". To me, anyway. It's not about having it the easiest way, it's just about feeling you're there.

And don't get me wrong, there are plus and minuses to everything. In Ultima (8+) you could argue that you don't have as much control over your character because, in the conversations, all the questions are scripted and phrased already for you. And you could say that in MW, it's better BECAUSE it's not like that; it just requires a little more use of the imagination. All stuff to consider.

Let us end this discussion with the almighty "to each his own"

Anyway, whatever you do, just have fun.
