make Gothic go supersmooth |
|
If you have an ABIT motherboard from KT133 > KX333 then make these following BIOS settings:
I'm abit of a OCer by nature so here is a way to make your system fly (if you have the right memory (Crucial/Corsair). I've only use EPOX and ABIT motherboards for this kind of thing, so only those apply...
Video Cache - DISABLE (KT)
System Performance - TURBO (KR/KX)
DRAM CLOCK = 166 (KX) 133A (KT/KR)
DRAM TIMING = MANUAL
SDRAM Cycle Length = 2
Bank Interleave = 4 Bank
TRP = 2 (KX)
TRAS = 5T (KX)
TRCD = 3T (KX) 2T (KT/KR266A - PC2100)
DRAM Burst Length = 8
DRAM Queue Depth = 2 Level
DRAM Drive Stength = AUTO
DRAM Command Rate = 1T Command
DCLKI Timing = 0ns
DCLKO Timing = 0ns
Fast R-W Turn Around = Enabled
Continuos DRAM Request = Enabled
If you have (or can get) CRUCIAL Memory (particularly PC2100-PC2700) at CAS 2 you simply will not believe how much faster your PC will go with these settings. If you don't have the right memory - don't do this.
Gothic must be twice the frame rate as it used to be (around 80fps even with 300% distance, 1024x768 32bit, full model and texture detail). The smoothness really makes Gothic something else. |

turn of ALL caches (disable) in the BIOS. Just don't CACHE anything in there.
Set the AGP Aperture to 128 (and enable AGPx4).
Also, disable ACPI Management.
Watch your jaw smack the floor.
Enjoy. |

I *casually* have the right mainboard ABit KR7A socket A (without RAID) and 256Mb DDR-RAM 2100... are you SURE that it can't HURT the system BIOS? I don't want to reset it (in 90% of the cases it will broke...) _________________ =Member of the NonFlamers' Guild=

Ahh, I don't get any of this. Is there a way to get Gothic to run faster? If there is could someone give it to me in simpler terms please. _________________ =Moderator of The RPGDot Shadows=

Srry HeWhoHasNoName but there aren't simplier terms, ... it's about changing the BIOS setup, operation which requires courage, hope and a lot of LUCK!!!! _________________ =Member of the NonFlamers' Guild=

The tweaking options above depends on more than the motherboard only.
For instance, a 'cheap' RAM module may result in random crashes or erroneous data on heavy load if used with that timing.
So it should only be used by advanced computer users (who do not need this hints, mostly =)

I always change a little bit my BIOS setup, but never tried changing RAM Access time... it would damage only the stability of the system or also the RAM? _________________ =Member of the NonFlamers' Guild=

Supersmooth via latest hardware. |

Is this good for running Gothic on:
1.5 Ghz P4
568 MB RAM
AGP equipped GeForce 4 440, w' 32 Mb onboard ram
x1 40 Gig RAID drive divided into 3 logical sections
Sound Blaster! 1024
Surround sound speakers
15" flatscreen (cr*p I know)
Cyborg force 2 (joystick)
Windows 98 2nd edition
Please note that I had to take a previous installation from by old computer and copy the files across because I don't think Gothic will detect the ammount of hard drive space I have (comes up with error message). This doesn't work because I have Ballistics (another Xicat game), and that runs amazingly. _________________ "Natural selection is just an excuse"
