EQ2 Beta for Lords of EverQuest Purchasers
   

More and more we're seeing companies leveraging beta access as a marketing tool and Sony Online is no exception. Purchasers of Lords of EverQuest who <a href="http://lordsofeverquest.station.sony.com/30extradaysofeq.jsp" target="_blank">register with SOE</a> before Jan 3rd 2004 will get an extra month added to their EverQuest subscription (assuming you have one, I suppose) and access to the EverQuest 2 beta. The sad thing is, the popularity of beta tests has nothing to do with "testing" a game to make it better or to prepare it for public launch.

This is a smart business move but it disgusts me. I'd be interested to know how many people buy the game that don't even want to play it just for a slot in the EQ2 beta.

And when is this "special phase" they mention? For all we know it could be the last 2 days of the beta. It just reeks to me.
