miniatures near the end...

Near the end in Iserbius's room where you get the last Akbaa Meteor is there anything to do with the minature troll and black beast in the cage. I opened the grate and let them fight. Guess who won?

I also tried various other things like kill the black beast and then open the grate and the troll thinks he won. I tried other intervention and offered various objects but no luck. I am just wondering if there is a related quest or more interaction with this.

i have the same question. is this a puzzle? or just for fun? what is the deal with this little cage & its little critters?
