For people who still have performance issue... |
|
I know the talk that never ends, anyway lots of gamers were and still are complying about the slow FPS (I was one of them). Even one Good Samaritan posted an "unofficial patch", unfortunately did squat for me (showing some font 0 error). So I was browsing through all possible sites related to Morrowind and finally I founded something I really like. Here it is
QUOTE
Optimization Options:
The nice folks over on that other Morrowind news site... damn... now what was their name again?? Oh yahhhh... Destination Morrowind... thats right. :p So the folks on DM have put together a few optimization tips-n-tricks that could help your session run a little more smoothly. These steps will require you to edit the Morrowind.ini file, so be sure to back it up. Once you have backed up the file (located in the root of your Morrowind folder), you can try the following options:
UseLinear=0
LinearMethod=1
LinearValue=3.0
LinearRadiusMult=1.0
;
UseQuadratic=1
QuadraticMethod=2
QuadraticValue=16.0
QuadraticRadiusMult=4.0
;
Additional shadows cast by NPCs and creatures (more shadows = performance hit):
Number of Shadows=32
Maximum Shadows Per Object=4
END QUOTE
I had like 10 FPS in towns now it goes from 15 to mid thirties.
EDIT
P.S. Shoot, maybe I should ask somebody for some kind of permission. Please don't ban me it was for good of the people.

They did not by chance post just WHAT these settings effect did they?
I do not like changing things unless I know why I am and what it effects.
Thanks _________________ Emerald Viper

Just make a backup of the .ini file. If you don't like the results, you can bring back your old .ini file. |

Thanks
It changes the lighting from Linear to Quadratic. I tried this out yesterday as part of a prelim optimisation run, and it did nothing for my FPS, but set up a buttload of sound glitches on my already glitchy PCI64 soundcard.
Quadratic lighting seems softer and less-defined, from what I could tell. |

Can someone explain to me why changing from a linear function (r) to a quadratic one (4r^2) will increase performance? _________________ You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. Around you is a forest. A small stream flows out of the building and down a gully. |

Yes, it is interesting... It seems it should decrease performance, not increase :]. |
