Dealing with the now-evil Old Camp

Once you start Chapter 5 (you've delivered the last of the Focus Stones to Sturas), the Old Camp shuts down and you are now attacked by nearly every Old Camper that you will meet from now on.

At some point you will get a rune to allow you to teleport in to the closed Old Camp and get your revenge.

Here are several ideas that can be used to deal with the closed Old Camp:

1. Before getting to chapter 5, be sure to visit the Old Camp and beat up (and take the weapons of) each of the guards that walk the walls of the outer ring. Then you won't be sniped from the walls when you pop in later.

2. Before chapter 5, kill the gate guards at both gates (the ones by the winches are immortal earlier in the game and need to be set to Flags=4). If this is done properly, at least one of the gates will not actually close and you will have access (without having to use "k" to get in) to the Old Camp before you get the teleport rune.

Special Note: One of the Gate Guards at the main gate needs to live long enough to tell you you did a good job cleaning out the crawler nest in the mine and that Thorus wants to see you. Otherwise you will not be invited to become a Guard or Mage. The Guard is the one numbered _214_.

3. If you've killed the gate guards but one of the gates is still closed, you can use the winch to open the gate -- as long as there are no immportal NPCs around you when you do it.

Good advice! But I think you mean Chapter 4, not 5!

Oops, my bad. It's the chapter when the Old Camp closes and you go on the quest to find Xardas.

Cool idea! I was wondering if the Meatbug scrolls were good for anything else besides getting into the Old Monastary.

I'd like to see a thread on what else Transform to Meatbug is good for.

imposteraz --

i guess the meatbug scroll would be good for spying too...
now all we need is something to spy on......
hmm .. it wouls have been alot better spell if all doors had a big gap under them .. then you could avoid useing keys and lockpicks..
hmmm .. me thinks me recall a door whit a gap under thats locked and as i remember theres alot of cool things in alot of cheasts in there .. not sure though .. its the one next to fish in the old camp..

Good idea! I'll have to give that a try.

Also, about Fisk's hut, you can usually get in there if you are around when Fisk opens the door himself (in the morning and late at night). I've been able to just walk in and start talking to Fisk (to keep him from raising the alarm), and then start going through his chests.

I've also found a good use for the Charm Spell (scroll or rune) -- throw it on the guard who is always in the marketplace and he will ignore you when you pick the lock on Fisk's huts (either one). If this is done in the very early morning (when no one else is around), no one will raise the alarm.

I was playing Gothic in Chapter 4 and decided I wanted to loot the Fire Mages' bodies. I transformed into a meatbug and went under the front gate. I went up toward the castle. As soon as I tried to enter the castle (still a meatbug), one of the guards yelled, "Hey, an intruder!" Thorus took out his huge sword and killed me (I was still a meatbug). Man, Thorus really must have meant it when he said, "Only Gomez's men are allowed in the castle."

Sorry, no. Once you reach this point, the whole Old Camp (except for a few NPCs) considers you working for the New Camp now and that you are now an enemy.

I ran into something like that once, but considered it just a bug of the program: I had walked right up to one of the closed gates of the Old Camp and a guard on the other side started attacking me right through the gate (he couldn't move though the gate but his sword could)! So I drew my sword and attacked back and beat him up. Then from the other side of the gate a went for a Coup de Grace on him. The program ran of me killing him, but when it was done I found myself on the other side of the gate -- where the now-dead guard was!

Must be a bit of Warrior Magic.

@Neo_Genesis-If you go back to the Old Camp as a Guard in Chapter 4 they will call you a traitor. You will then get the choice to join the New Camp Merceneries.
