I go down to the 4th level after seeing the cut scene with the priests, except I take my time getting down there. After stumbling around for a few minutes I hear Shany calling to save her. I go towards the sound of her voice and down a hall with a torch/lever/lock at the end. 3 priests come running out of this room towards me. There is also a *huge* red monster of some sort behind them. I run back with the priests chasing me as I heal and stop every once in a while to throw a fireball at them or slash them with my sword. When they're all finally dead, I go back to the room but the lever doesn't open it, and for a while I see parts of the huge red thing flail at me *thru* the wall, then silence. The room won't open. Am I too late? Do I miss much not doing this quest? Is it vital to the main quest? Thanks very much. |

If you don't follow the priets somewhat closely and disrupt their plans soon after they open the secret door, you'll be too late for Shany. You'll know she is dead when a demon appears (the "huge red monster"), which is apparently summoned upon her sacrifice.
Saving Shany is a side quest, so ignoring it or failing to do it will in no way disrupt the main quest. However, if you are an experience-points junkie (like me), you will go back to an earlier saved game and rescue her, for it is worth a nice little 2500 XP and some free goodies from a grateful Maria (Shany's mother). |

OK... I think I'll have another go at it if I can find a reasonably close save. Thanks a lot for all the help. |
