Bioware Opens Austin, TX Studio for MMOG Development @ Gamas

Bioware is opening a new studio in Austin, Texas, USA for the development of MMO type games.
The new studio has already begun work on an unnamed massively multiplayer online role-playing (MMORPG). Joining the Austin team as lead designer is James Ohlen, BioWare's creative director, whose previous credits include lead or co-lead design roles on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II. Also leading the BioWare Austin team are MMO veterans Richard Vogel and Gordon Walton.
Read the rest here.

While I share our guest's disappointment about the MMO aspect, I'm encouraged that a new development house is opening. It's been a long time since I've seen anything but developers closing down.

Its a MMORPG so I'm curious if it will be their same IP that Dragon Age is done with.

Is this the end of the Free Online play model (NWN) for Bioware?

hmm I'd say hardly the end as NWN2 is coming down the pipe and looking good. Probably just a case of Bioware wanting to try their hand at the genre and try to get some of that WoW cash-money.

We'll have to wait and see I guess but nothing wrong with giving it a go.. Here's hopin' its sci-fi and not yet another elf and orc bash party ... ^_^

Well they are makign Mass Effect but that's an action game.

I think their marketing department would stomp all over them if they tried to get as experimental as Origin was.

I mean look at the next big release from "Bioware Edmonchuk" : Dragon Age. Yes it has Dwarves and Elves. And it has Dragon in the title in spite of groans from their fanbase.
