Please help! need advice and comments... |

I have been reading posts and trying different things (like the no safe disk wrapper executable). Many of these things have improved performnace, ill list what i found that worked after my system specs and FPS.
system: Athlon T-bird 1.2GHz, 512ram (running 133), Geforce 4 4440, SB 16 PCI, 7200RPM ATA66 drives, latest drivers from nvidia/VIA/creative.
setup: only running core system services for windows plus a firewall, total ram allocated to services is 53mb (14 services running) leaving 460mb ram for application use. Swap file is set to 1GB min/max. Hard drives are running ata33 (udma4) in winXP with latest via IDE drivers. This configuration is pretty lean and i have many services disabled.
resuslts: with the no safe disk wrapper .exe, 1024x768@32bit, shadows off, AI all the way left, view all the left, pixel shader on: the FPS in sedyna neyn (starter town) is 20-35FPS. Inside small buildings the FPS is 60-100 FPS. Inside large buildings the FPS is 25-60FPS. Outdoor areas the FPS is 20-60FPS.
I can personally live with this performance even though i wish it was better. But there is one problem that simply irritates me TO NO END! First off this happens more when running than alking, while merrily running along my screen will freeze for 1-2 seconds and then release.... no new zone message is seen. This also happens when i enter a new area but i expect this... like when you go to balmora and get near the city it pauses to loadbalmora and tells you so at the bottom right of your screen. The fact that this happens more when running than walking leads me to believe that MW is accessing the Hard Drive for info and loading it into system ram. Now 7200RPM HD's running udma33 should be able to handle the transfer ok, but then i really dont know? If any of you are running SCSI HD's are you also seeing this pause? Or if any of you running IDE drives do not have this problem please list your specs and setup. Man i really wanna get this pausing fixed, it drives me nuts LOL. |

I think that it is same as when you see message about "loading". I mean game sometimes displays this message, sometimes not.
Duration of this "pause" depends on your CPU, Harddisk speed, on level of fragmentation of your disk, etc.
This is nothing to worry about at least this is not bug. |

That is what is caused by safedisk, if you havent installed the no cd .exe then do so and it will get rid of those pauses. If you have installed it then recheck just how you installed it. Try renaming the Morrowind.exe to Morrowind.old and then naming the morrowind no cd.exe to morrowind.exe. I think some calls still go to the morrowind.exe even when using the no cd .exe so renaming it is the only way to properly install it. |

Ahh well, that is what i thought as well... that it was just loading data. It just gets annoying pausing for 2 secs every 2 mins. Oh well price of the game i suppose. |
