MMORPGDot Feature: Anarchy Online: Status Report #1 |
|
In the Status Report feature we bring our readers a short Q&A on a regular basis with the developer team of currently active mmorpg's. It is our aim to provide them with a short overview of the changes and improvements that have been accomplished in the past few months or are still in the pipeline. Today we offer you the first (long!) installment of the Anarchy Online Status Report with Funcom's project manager Jorgen Tharaldsen.
Check it out here! |

Thanks for the great interview guys. I knew that I should not have bought SWG and should have stuck with AO. AO is heads and tails better then SWG (imo) and this interview has really got me back in the AO mode. |

All credits for this interview go to Jorgen Tharaldsen who took the time to answer to my questions in a detailed and open manner. _________________ Vault Network Editor |

Well, AO does have almost 2 years of life behind it though, doesn't it? When it first came out the general appreciation of AO was way below that of SWG I guess the developers stuck to their work and managed to make things better, and they should be commended for that. But I wouldn't say AO is better than SWG. It's different, and it had a lot of time to perfect itself. _________________ =Proud Father of a new gamer GIRL!=

The above post, by Essential, was me. I guess I wasn't logged in!
Oh, don't give me that 2 years stuff
True, they are different games so I guess I should have said that at this time AO is more fun, for me. Who knows though. In 2 years SWG could be the best mmorpg out there.
And I played AO when it went live, and yes it was pretty bad, but frankly I'm beyond being sick of people constantly bringing that up. It's time to move on and see what AO is now, not what it was the first 6 months it was live. |

Well yes, since you have to pay for an mmorpg at any given time, I think you should compare the current quality of an mmorpg at the current time... especially in a feature called the "Status Report" of course
So I think you could say that AO is the best mmorpg out there (sic) without having to take in account the previous two years. I haven't played it yet recently, but I'll get back to it when Shadowlands is released.
On the other hand I don't think it's a waste to have bought SWG. As I see it, the game has great potential. Even if older mmorpg's still beat it at this given time, you can always switch back to it in a year or something. Even if I didn't like SWG at this time, you shouldn't regret having bought it, imho. _________________ Vault Network Editor |

After reading this I agree with you Hyrrix. I'm sure I'll eventually play again, whether it's a month from now, or a year from now. So, I guess I don't regret buying it, but I do regret canceling my account 1 day late so I had to pay for another month. |

Oh don't give me that beyond sick stuff!
You're absolutely right, but I only meant to illustrate a point. Comparing any two games is wrong because they have a completely different life of their own, and they often don't even try to achieve the same goals. I won't compare AO to SWG. The fact that you dislike SWG now has nothing to do with your liking AO today. And I should not let my initial impressions of AO affect my judgement of it today, you're right. But I tried it again at the beginning of this year (January of February I think) when they invited old players to try it for free for 7 days. I still didn't enjoy it much, but that's just my lonely opinion. _________________ =Proud Father of a new gamer GIRL!=
