After about 24 hours I have found the game to be non emmersive. I actually prefer Gothic. |

Hmm I have found it to be incredibly immersive. Have not played gothic but have played bg1+2, arcanum, ps torment.
Could it be that you are expecting a deep, intricate storyline to "take you in" from the beginning? Morrowind does not do that, it presents a huge world and lets you do what you want. The main quest is presented but takes a back seat.
It's a different philosophy, not necessarily better or worse. Kind of like linear rgps and non linear.
Icewind dale was an excellent game, but many people disliked how linear it was. Apples and oranges. Icewind dale set out to be a great dungeon hack and it certainly was.
So, I prefer to judge things based upon whether they accomplished what they want to do or not. I personally may or may not enjoy what they set out to accomplish. |

hm.. I wonder if that is the problem. I've never played any of those games you mentioned, they had no appeal to me. I preferred the Ultima-style games, .. Gothic falls into that category as well.
Morrowind hasn't really grown on me the same way. I'm almost tempted to sell my copy. |

I'm just the opposite. I really wanted to like Gothic, but just didn't. Returned it while I could still get my money back. Nothing at all wrong with the game (outside of the voice acting, it was heinous in the American edition), just not my type of game.
So if MW isn't your type of game, no harm, return it and spend the money on something you'll like more.
It ain't gonna leave my hard drive for a very long time. _________________ Proprietor of

It's cool if you don't like it.
The problem I have is when people give biased reviews. Recently, we've seen lots of reviews on here that complain that morrowind is not gothic.
Might as well complain that a Honda Civic is not a porsche.
Completely different products and functions. |

I loved Gothic, and I love MW as well. Theres things I liked better in Gothic, and things I like better in MW. Gothic had more of a read along story, and MW has a Fallout, roaming around to find your own story feel IMO.
I'm sure I'll play morrowind a lot more then I did Gothic though. Both top notch games. |

I'm finding MW intimidating in its size and scope. I have run a number of quests just for my Mage Guild, and have only begun to see the immensity of this game. For me, the immersion is not in the story, but in my own character, and the decisions I make as to where to go next. I'm finding myself constantly challenged in a number of different ways, and the thought that something new and cool is just over the hill is a real motivator to continue the game. In Morrowind, there are seemingly hundreds of stories all wrapped up in a very complex political and cross-cultural scheme, and I am just a pawn within those stories.
I feel more a part of a real world in this game than any other I've played. Most RPGs push you toward an end result, and the game world is constrained by the story. And the need to advance and learn in order to continue the main quest drives me to focus much more on survival and training, much more than previous RPG games.
I am so completely impressed with this game, I can hardly describe the feeling I get when playing it. I will have to take a look at Gothic, though, since you guys seem very high on it as well. _________________ Don't sweat the small stuff... |

I prefered the voiceacting - personality NPC's in Gothic, than the speechless "say same as everyone else" NPC's in Morrowind.
It have been so bad, that I actually stopped to talk to NPCs =( I dont feel like go around talking to people...
I would gladly offer another 5gb of my harddrive to have voiceactors...
Best Regards

There is voiceacting. But not for all 3000+ npcs. That would have been WAY too much work. |
