Errrrrr, okay. Whatever, I don't really care.
However, my view is that Wizardry 8 is better. Levelling up is more fun, anyways. It could be coloured by the fact that I'm still playing Wizardry 8, while I finished BG2, Torment, etc. ages ago, and haven't gone back. IMHO, Wizardry has more replay value than those, but then again, I've only spent like 50 hours playing it so far. |

On another note, mr. or ms. Anonymous, why don't you register as a user? It's fairly easy, you know. |

I can't because I'm using a computer at work which is the only internet access I have right now.
And to the person who is whining about flaming...who is flaming? Stop crying, we're
having a debate about games here. I haven't seen anyone doing any flaming yet. |

I am not crying
And I do not think that threads about you are bitching, no I am not bitching you are bitching are discussion about games.
Why is your only access to internet in work reason for not registering?

Hehe. I think I can say that we're not flaming, we're strongly voicing our opinions. We haven't called anyone's mom names, or anything like that. |

It's considered very insulting to insult another person's mother.

Well, seems this diskussion has woken some people. It's hard to argue against opinions, but we can surely try, that's the hole idea with this forum!
"The Sims games", "Diablo 2" etc. was/is high selling products, none of them got the AD&D rules, and none of them are even pure CRPG's as someone of us would say. BG2 was selling good even compared to those, and surely for many good RPG elements, but not only because of the AD&D rules, no for reasons that someone already mentioned above!
If BG2 was made with a character system like Fallout, Might & Magic or other alike more open systems, it wouldn't have made the game less popular.
Take the new Pools of Radiance game for example. Even with the so called newest Ad&D rules this game didn't make a hit, No because the other RPG elements was to poor, to keep most people interested.
I too have played and finished IWD, BG1+2. Many aspects in those games was okay, and that's why I did finish them, despite of the 2 major turnoff points. The boring AD&D character development rules, and the RTS like "GOD" perspective giving you a much less immersive feeling of the gameworld!
The battles in BG2 was often very "magic" concentrated, and it was challenging to find the right combination of spells (in the beginning) to kill the magic monsters. But it ended always up into casting protection on your self and dispell your opponents protection spells, the same did your opponent do.
Some may like to "scout" ahead with one character, to avoid all surprises, others may like in 1. person view, to peek around the corners, and look the surprises into his own eyes. |

Personally I don't feel that the point of view has a relationship with the immersiveness of a game, at least not for me. Besides that, having a party and playing in 1st person view makes it hard for you to control the party. That would only work if you can't control the party directly I think.
For the rest I agree with Michael

By gameworld immersiveness, I don't mean that you forget everything around you when you play. I do that by playing both BG2 or Wizardry 8. No what I mean, is how you experience and explore the gameworld through your own eyes, making you feel much more involved in the world. This you don't do with the same immersiveness with the "GOD" viewpoint compared to 1. person view.
I like going inside buildings/dungeons and alike to look around on details, instead of see it all from above through dimmed walls/roofs. I like walking around in the enviroment to find the hidden door with my own eyes, instead of just clicking around on an overview mode.
The "God" view mode may have other strategic posibilities than 1.person, and each person has it's own favorit. Mine is to be in a game as close as it gets. 1.person view, with surround sound is for now the closest you can get. |

Ah.. ok... I see your point then. I think I even agree to that. Remains the point that with the party member interface Baldur's Gate has you just can't control them in 1st person view.
