Orcish map

In chapter 4, after I found the sextant, I went back to the new world to finish it's quest...
I realised that it's all full of orcs, and I started the quest to kill all orcs.
I found the map and kill all of them, that game me a LOT of experience, I think it was like 7000.
Is this quest in the main story? did I do it too early in the game?

You get the quest in Chapter 5 (4 are the Dragons) only as an Paladin.
You will be attacked by 2 Orcish Warlords (1 by Xardas 1 By the Pass).
You do not have to kill them to go to chapter 6 but they indeed give a lot of XP....
