NCSoft Working on D&D Single Player Game? @ Kotaku

Voodoo Extreme has picked up a rumor from Kotaku's site. The rumor has it that NCSoft is working on a single player game built around DnD.
The big shock is that the game will apparently not be a massively multiplayer online title, instead it will be some sort of dungeons and dragons game built around smaller multiplayer experiences. The article also mentions it will be designed for casual gamers.
Read the rest at Kotaku.

The linked article is misquoting the original rumour article. If you follow the trail back to http://blogs.rockymountainnews.com/denver/freePlay/2006/02/nc_soft_making_single_player_g.html#more you'll see that there is no mention that this is a D&D game they are working on.

Misquote or not, it is interesting that this above description is EXACTLY what Dungeons and Dragons Online is even though they are billing it(both meanings) as a MMOG.

I've modified the newsbit on the front page. Down here, we'd call that a classic case of "Chinese whispers".

For anyone wondering what a "chinese whisper" is, here's something to try at your next party. Write down a short message (something in the order of about 8-10 words). Then have 10 friends line up so they are each about an arm-length apart, whisper the message to the first person (so no-one else can over-hear it). The first person then moves to whisper the message to the second person, second to third and so on, until the tenth person. Ask the tenth person to repeat the message out loud, and invaribly the message will have altered from the original.

It refers to how each time the message gets ever so slightly embelished or altered, which in itself is not a big issue, but when it's passed on several times, the embelishment from original source to end "report" can be surprising different.
