In Baldur's Gate II an in-game popup hint promised you would be able to import your BGII character into NWN. Lies all lies? |

They decided to start from Level 1 characters again, which I can understand. It's pretty confusing having to deal with forty spells if you start as a fifteenth level magic user or something, and aren't used to AD&D.
You're forced to think strategically if you have limited resources, also. Some of my most fun battles in BG One were when I dumped my party and went hunting with my thief/magic user alone.
(In Icewind Dale II they have justified the restart from level one by saying "it's a generation later" as if 30 years would matter to dwarves and elves!)
However, I think you can use the editor to create your BG Two character if you want, though that might limit your options for online play. |

Another factor was the change to 3rd Edition rules, which would have ruled out a lot of character classes.
By the end of BG Two, my cavalier character (with his cloak of spell reflection) bore a close resemblance to a blender, slicing and dicing everything in his way, and I wouldn't have wanted to import him into NWN anyway! |

There is also the copyright issue. The Baldur's Gate series were developed/published by Black Island Studio/Interplay while NWN is published by Infogames. |
