Deus Ex - Invisible War Review @ CGO |
CGO has posted a lukewarm review of Deus Ex 2, summing it up to a mere 76% and this conclusion which speaks out what every fan of part 1 is feeling:
In the end, I’m utterly disappointed by Invisible War. And nothing makes me madder than knowing what a masterpiece it could have been, if it was developed only for the PC (as it should have been in the first place) and THEN ported to XBOX. However, Eidos decided that the console market was a too bigger opportunity to miss, and decided to simplify the game, in order to make it more accessible to console owners. And you can clearly see this when you compare the very first screenshots released by ISA with the present ones, where you will see that at the beginning of the game’s development, the interface was similar to the one in DX1 and the graphics looked better. The bottom line? Invisible War is NOT a bad game and it’s certainly worth a look, but it doesn’t rise up to the standards set by its predecessor, and it’s WAY below the fans expectations and certainly a LONG way from what it was intended to be in the first place: a worthy sequel for Deus Ex. And me? I’m left with only the hope that Thief 3 will not suffer the same fate as IW, that ISA will manage to finish Deus Ex 3 some time in the future and regain the prestige lost in front of its fans and make a game worthy of the Deus Ex name.

I'm not sure if its paranoia on my part but it seems alot of developers are coming out of the proverbial closet and saying things like " I always was a big fan of the X box and I always wanted to make a game for that console".Maybe they think the future for gaming lies in console games.Maybe their right. I myself prefer the up-close and personal, better graphics and control I get with my computer and I doubt I will ever change my mind. The artistic gratification has gone by the way side and it really is all about money now.Theres alot of kids that can afford a console but probably couldn't afford a good gaming computer,so the decision has come down to cater to those people. It looks to me that computer games are becoming an after thought,to be made if theres enough time or interest. |
