Yep, the fly spell, was one of the spells, you tried to get as fast as possible in the previous games.

Conclusions

Finished the game and generally found it entertaining despite its buggy nature. For me though the key to how good I found it rests on the fact that I don't feel like playing it through again any time soon. With Wizardry8 say I was already planning party number2 long before my first group made it anywhere near the Cosmic Circle.

Might and Magic 3 continues to hold the title.

Gamespot just came out with their review of the game, and it's not to nice. I still have a raincheck for the game (it's still not out here yet), and I'm am seriously thinking of passing on this one. What about that question. After knowing what you know now, would you still have bought it?

Yes Max, my experience is very good, not so good as with Wizardry, but it is personal opinion and there are things that make these games not really comparabel.
Well, I liked Wizardry 8 more especially because of nice turn-based battles. But someone who didnt like Wiz battle (too long for him) can like this one better (there is still option to turn on turn-based battles, but it is obvious that it is not "normal" for this game and that it is solution just for really difficult battles).

Well I'm not overly impressed with MMIX and after i have finished it, I must say that they were made better. As a huge MM fan I'm a bit disappointed with MMIX. I can quite exactly say why, but somehow it didn't catch me in the same way as the previous games. I agree that W8 was much more interesting and immersive! MMIX is certainly not all bad, but I guess "us" fans of MMIX have expected more!

Worth buying?

If you are planning only one CRPG purchase in the near future then MMIX is probably not it. Not that it is a bad game and if you have enjoyed any previous M&M titles then there will be much to enjoy in MMIX.A few years ago I would have been thrilled by the game but with Gothic and PoR2 sitting unplayed on my computer and Freedom Force and Morrowind set to join them shortly I am less enthusiastic.

When MMVI came out there hadn't been a decent CRPG for ages but MMIX emerged into a different world and suffers by comparison.

P.S. Buy it anyway! It's Might and Magic after all.

I agree totally with everything in the last post. I should since I wrote it but for some reason was not recognised. Spell of invisibility must be working.

Worth Buying?

Max, I can only offer my opinion. Having played it now, if I had it to do over again I would definately NOT buy the game. Further (and perhaps more telling) I would NOT play it if someone gave it to me - I simply wouldn't waste my time and efforts.

Damn :(

I had been looking forward to the game. I don't have much free time to play games, so I think I'll pass this one until I can get it cheaper and concentrate on finishing MMVI and W8

I am about half way through the game, and it has 'caught' me. I am a long time fan of the series, and while IX feels unfinished, it has a lot of what I look forward to (have looked forward to?) in M&M games.

The dungeons are interesting and well laid out, the quests have more "fun" themes than I usually see (rescue a prisoner, ruin a life then save a life etc), and the character development is addictive.

I wish NWC had the time to finish populating the world. Most of the game world has a slightly "sterile" feel to it, and some additional tweeking (sp?) was needed (EG - some access to master level after the first promotion would have been a great idea. The first promotion adds little to the character outside of hit points and cost to level up).

All in all I am enjoying the game, and will be sorry when it is over. Doubly so since this may be the last M&M ever.

I certainly hope it isn't the last game in the series. I may reconsider and buy the damn game just to add my 10 bucks to keeping the series alive. I hope they can learn from their mistakes with this one and build a better MMX

Yes, but the question is: If I buy it, will they think 'Ah well, Maggot bought it so we can't be far off with our formula', or will they think 'Yippee, now we can improve MMX even more?' If I don't buy it, will they think 'Damn, Maggot's stopped buying our games so we better close shop', or will they think 'Hmm, we need to improve MMX to get Maggot buying it'

The answer is fairly simple actually. They are (like virtually all companies in this age) after the bottom line only. If they see the game selling despite its flaws, they will proceed in that direction because it is simpler and requires less effort and investment.
