You can also store extra items in the empty houses in Arnika. You needn't worry if anyone is going to break in and steal them. At least it's never happen to me.

Anything you drop anywhere stays there.
Using chests/lockers/caskets is good for things the game won't let you drop.

Like all of the freaking keys, keycards and all of the other miscelaneous stuff that the game keeps dumping on you and forcing you to keep, even after you've used them. Before I found out I could drop things in chests, I had a full collection of IUF Security cards clogging up my inventory.
