You want a GeForce 3 for the graphical effects.
The "better cpu or not" is depending on wich CPU you have already and wich CPU you intend to upgrade to.
I have a GeForce 3 Ti500/512mb/1200Mhz AMD and I am thinking of upgrading my CPU just becouse of Morrowind.
Best Regards

Geforce5 (nv30) will be available sometimes in August I hope. Possibly sooner because of matrox/ati putting pressure. I read Ati is done with r300 hw and is waiting on dx9 to show up. I feel that all new cards will by hybrid and not fully dx9 compatible. The reason being is because dx9 will comeout in early 2003 from what I read and I don't think hw companies will wait that long. I mean who knows, ms team might change specs at last minute why risk it? Then again, hw vendors might claim dx9 support then release the new cards even if dx9 isn't out yet. Perhaps all hw specs are finalized now and only bugs remain to be fixed in dx9. We'll just have to wait some more but I say the release cycles are pretty fast already. I didn't probably made much sense, time to hit the bed. |

Statistically there will be a new card each year, and a 'power-version' of the new card 6 months after the first.
The Ti series popped up very late when it comes to GeForce 3, but August-January there will probably be GeForce 5 yes, pushing the limit even higher, making GeForce 3 look bad, and then next summer there will be GeForce 5.2/Ultra/Pro/Whatever, to make room for GeForce 6 in the end of 2003...
Thats the way it is.
I try to update once per year since I am a powergamer.

From what I can see, if your system is below 1.4GHz or equivalent then CPU upgrade will give Morrowind a performance boost. If you are already above, then moving to GeForce3 or above will give an image boost and a small power boost. Morrowind image will not be better with a GeForce4 than a GeForce3 because from what Todd Howard and the devs said last year, the game was written with GeForce3 in mind. The biggest image boost GeForce4 will give over GeForce3 is Full Screen Anti-aliasing without a performance hit. |
