Always Broke

Well, I did spend some money on things I thought important. I got a map of the territory for 250 and I bought some leather armor for 250. That last seems to be a waste so far. It didn't help protect me against the creatures.

I'm trying to develop into a mage with bow skills. That means I need money for arrows. Like the book says, you can't get much out of a bow at distance until you are very skilled. Even close up, I need arrows!

I took Bosper's task, but didn't join him. He paid nicely for the first six wolf skins, but now he pays a lousy 3 coins each. At least I can kill a wolf with my sword, but I then waste precious plants and found potions to heal afterwards. And wolves are few and far between so far. I've gone as far as the landowner's and back.

Is it worth while learning the other hunting skills? I fed the guy who teaches them but don't have the LP now to get them. If I'm only going to get 3 coins a tooth it hardly seems worth it.

I'll never raise the 1000 I need to get into the mage's guild at this rate.

Can I do both? Become apprentice for Bosper and then join the Mage's Guild? I thought they were two different ways to go.

You can do both. Becoming Bosper's apprentice doesn't prevent you from becoming a mage.

An easy way to get a lot of money early on is to become Harrad's aprentice - at least in my experience, it was.

He wants you to bring him an orc weapon, so take the "Guided Tour" offered by Lares, have him get you as close as possible to Onar's farm, and cover the rest of the distance on your own. Once there, you can buy a Light Orc Axe from one of the mercs (Cipher, I think - check around) and a bunch of raw steel from the smith and the apprentice. (in fact, the smith at Onar's farm has a replenishing stock of raw steel, so you can come back and buy more several times).

Once you're back in town, buy more raw steel from the merchants by the city gates (Hakon, etc), give Harrad the orc weapon, learn how to make the Self-Forged sword, and start making them and selling them back to him at a profit of 90 gold a pop. I probably made 3000-4000 gold this way in Chapter 1.

Thank you all. Becoming Harrad's apprentice seems to be the most profitable. I'll try that. I seems I'm only limited by how much raw steel I can buy instead of how many wolves I can find and kill.

Really early on in the game you can gain unlimited gp in the city: simply go to the landlord (free beer stand) and he will give you unlimited beer ("dark paladins") every time you talk to him however i found that he doesn't always give you a beer but only sometimes hoever you get 6gp par beer (or is it bear?probably not!)
