Middle Earth Online GenCon Interview @ Gamespy

Gamespy managed to grab Chris Taylor (ex Interplay, not Gas Powered Games) at GenCon for an interview about Middle Earth Online. Here's some of the discussion:

GameSpy: What about characters? Meeting them. Can you waylay Frodo and steal the Ring?

Chris Taylor: We talked a lot at the beginning about how we wanted to use these characters and story elements. These characters are the core of this game-world. We wanted to use them, but we had to make sure the characters won't interfere with the fellowship. Secondary characters like Barliman Butterbur, Tom Bombadil, Elrond, those people have very specific locations within the world.

They arent doing justice to Tolkien by putting three fourths of the world in future expansions. Sure Eriador is nice, but there is much more. Its a marketing gimmick, straight laziness, and idiocy.
