If you have acrobatics, I think you can jump across if you get right at the edge. Also, I think I remember hearing someone say you had to use a pickaxe to knock the column down, but it falls the wrong way just to spite you.

Just use a bloodfly scroll, climb up the short hill in the back and fly across to the other side.

Acrobatics works, I just got a running start, and jumped. You have to get the timing down or else you will fall, a LONG way.

I tried the bloodfly thing, but I couldn't get across. Maybe it was me.

There is no way to push/chop/break/throw the column over to make a "bridge".

You can only push the column in the opposite direction at which point it becomes useless.

Whoever said using the pickaxe would do the trick was a liar.

Doing the Bloodfly ride is difficult, at least it was for me: right speed, right distance, right angle. It took me several tries.

Fortunately, the chest is really just a 'teaser'. There's nothing even remotely interesting in it, as I recall. Maybe a few transformation scrolls... if that.

Actually, I believe the chest is no more special than a basic diggers chest...

That's what I was thinking... then I remembered Gorn babbling about powerful transformation magics.... I recall finding a few transform scrolls there, but they probably weren't in that chest.

The column is an evil joke, perhaps making fun of that old puzzle found in many many games of chopping down a tree or knocking down a column to make a bridge..so this column falls the other way

You don't even need acrobatics to make that jump, just do it on the corner and hit jump right at the edge, you will make it.

Also there's nothing much in that chest, some arrows, 30 ore and a transform to molerat scroll.

I wouldn't waste a precious meatbug scroll on a chest with 30 arrows and some ore.
