Sacred: Demo Impressions @ GWJ |
|
Gamers with Jobs has cast an eye over the Sacred demo and whipped up some impressions:
Many will tell you that Sacred is like Diablo II only it looks better and you can ride a horse. While true, it doesn't really do justice to what Ascaron Entertainment is doing with Sacred and how it's really more Divine Divinity than Diablo II. We'll start with the similarities first since there are a few. The viewpoint is isometric like Diablo II and the combat is point and click with right clicking performing various special moves, spells and attacks. There are a ton of side quests to perform while running through different main quests and creatures drop items when you kill them. That about covers it.
|

I must admit, I was looking forward to this game, until I played the demo. Some say it's Diablo 2 like, granted the movement/actions are the same. Others say it's more like Divine Divinity, sorry it is no where close to Divine Divinity. I was shocked, even keeping in mind that it is a demo, that there was a severe lack of object interaction. For example, there are crates all over the place and you can't do anything with them, and simple things like plates, cups etc. can't be moved or used. Let alone in the building you first arrive in, there are tons of bookshelves you cant search, not to mention lined with books you can't read. Sacred has a great story line, but it's shadowed compared to Divine Divinitys'. Overal I give it the following as a demo:
Playability 10, definately not small for a demo.
Hype 10, Yeah, it will sell if people don't try the demo.
Graphics, 8, considering it was a demo these are usually better in the final, and they were nice! (well except for the edging around the characters)
Sound, 6, This is stated to be better in the final
Controls, 7, sometimes she'd just run around what I was attempting to fight
However, due to all the hype and playing the demo, I will not be purchasing it, and I give it overall a 5/10.
Cheers! |

I don't know what hype you mean. In my opinion the devs of Sacred were very honest regarding it's similarities to Diablo. So the demo is more or less what i expected the game to be: A diablo style action rpg with clear emphasis on hack&slash and a huge non linear game world. |
