It's just as much (if not more) an RPG.

Xenus looks too much of a FPS to be interesting to me, but thanks for the tip though..

And i wasnt even able to find S.T.A.L.K.E.R in the games database.. I guess ill have to look for it on google.

Anyone have any other tips?

The new Vampire: the Masquerade game by Troika is going to be set in the modern age. Crap, you mentioned that game.

What about the Jagged Alliance series? Its a kind of Stategy/RPG.

Yes, IT IS!!! It is an RPG/Shooter hybrid. That can still be considered an RPG! So what, it's set a couple years into the future. We're not going to get an RPG set in the year 2003.

Quick, change the subject before MageofFire blows a gasket

I saw a page on Home of the Underdogs about a Japanese RPG that had a modern-day setting and was quite dark in tone... sounded pretty good, but I forget the name and what platform it was for.

hang on, I'll have a look...

can't find it yet, but I have come across this one: Shin Megami Tensei (aka Digital Devil Story) which sounds quite interesting, and is available to download from the site. I think I'll give it a go. Can't tell from that page if it's modern-day or not.

Hang on... it wasn't Underdogs, it was a "most overlooked games" feature on some other site, but I can't remember where that was now - the game series was called Persona, but it looks like only one of the series (Eternal Punishment, the second I think) got translated into English. It's for Playstation. I wouldn't mind having a go. Anyway, there's a review here.

Anyway, it's set in modern-day Japan. I remember reading in the "overlokked games" article that one of the Persona games underwent changes in the localisation process to make it look as though it was set in America rather than Japan, which seems pretty silly to me.

Last I heard, Sir-Tech filed bankrupcy. The company also made the wizardry series. They are still operating but they need cash injection from some source before they make any more games.
