There is no answer to this. It all lies in the eyes of the beholder.

The "fighter, mage, thief" reply is the stock answer I understand, but I think personality plays a role here as well.

Do you like to sweet-talk, influence or swindle your way through most things? If your prefered weapon is your charm, your high reputation or your pocketbook (for bribes) then choose Hlaalu.

Are you an "honor at all costs" type? Would you rather see your rivals dead than humiliated? (even if "honor" means taunting them till they strike the first blow, as per Morrowind tradition) If your prefered weapon IS a weapon, Redoran should be a good match. But a battle-mage or even some thief sub-classes may well find it an equally appropriate choice.

Are you a true cutthroat, last-man-standing type? That appears to be the Telvanni philosophy. Of course, you'll need at least one main magic skill - but that could easily be handled with conjuration by a warrior type (bound weapons/armor, plus a conjured 'sidekick' for the battles) or illusion for thief classes.

OK, that's MY take on the Houses, a bit less simplistic than the fighter/mage/thief model.
