It's no longer a rumour. It's been confirmed on gamasutra that Origin is being shut down. Employees have been offered a severance package or to relocate to California.

Nothing new, EA has been relocating their staff from over a year from now, beginning with the final shutdown of Westwood, and the most recent rellocation of the Maxis staff.
Strictly, I don't care, I have gived up hopes on EA ever since they shut down Westwood and damned the C&C franchize with that stupid excuse of a game, called Generals.

Guys, as far as I know, this is still a rumor. There have been no official statement from EA yet about any of this, or from anyone I know at OSI. The news at Gamasutra said the very important word "reportedly", and linked to a source from gamesindustry.biz, which effectively says:
quote:
However, EA has not confirmed the move, with Glen O'Connell, spokesperson for Electronic Arts UK, telling us this afternoon that "EA is constantly evaluating best-practices and structures for our worldwide studio operations. At this time, we have no changes to announce."

However, this "rumor" is very plausible, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it confirmed any time now. But it hasn't yet, and until it is I still treat it as a rumor.

I'm affraid chances are that it *will* delay UXO, Amon...
Relocating the entire staff to another state will do that.
Not every member will want to move I guess...I don't blame them if they wouldn't.
So they will most likely have to hire new employees who will have to get up to speed with UXO, etc etc.
The best scenario would be if all members would relocate. But even then it will mean a delay...grrrr

And about the "rumor" status: officially yes, but where there is smoke there is fire...
