Maybe that's why we all love Gothic? It may not be something totally new, but it's unique in a very special way

Baldur's Gate 2 is great!
you not only get a full team to control, but everyone interacts with each other, the relationships deepen the longer you keep the same people in your party AND you can have full-blown romances with your teammates.
it's hilarious when you have someone evil in a mostly good party. because he'll raise hell and tease and annoy the gentlest teammate until a big fight erupts and you end up losing teammates over it. unless you stop the fight of course and mediate it.

plus the fighting isn't really hack n slash. i'd call diablo hack n slash, but not BG2. you can pause the action at any time in a fight, so that you can assign certain actions to teammates. you can make your mages cast any spell they have memorized, you can stop someone from fighting and have them heal another... it's a really deep and complex combat system.
you can also assign scripts to each class that will guide them thru combats in a manner befitting their class. like having a druid summon animal spirits to attack or shapeshift herself into a black bear and heal ailing teammates all at the same time.

it's an incredible game with a great storyline. i'd easily recommend it to anyone who likes rpgs and is looking for something deep and fun to play.

I went up town and got BG2..i havnt played BG1 and the start is really weird..its hard to get to know all the chracters as they have came from BG1.

I have only been playing it for a very short while and i am not out of the first dungeon yet,..but im interested to see what the world outside is like, cities, jungles, forest, towns, ruins the whole things...

after you get out of the first dungeon, youll have a blast. Its a great game. Of course i would have said to start at BG1 since it will probley seem a bit boring after you play BG2, but i guess it doesnt really matter...

@ Irf:
Im assuming your asking about BG2... yes its a single player game, with optional multiplayer

I personally think the game is not much fun unless you are a mage. Mages kick anything around and look awesome and are just the best! Being a fighter or something like that just makes the game kinda less fun I say.

I know you already got Baldur's Gate 2, but if that doesn't do it for you, I can definately second the suggestion of Outcast.

You might have a hard time finding it, since it's been out for a few years, but it's an excellent game. 3rd or 1st person view, ton's of NPC's to talk to, lots of action, lots of quests, great storyline, great music.

Here's a link if you want some game info, screenshots, music samples, etc.

Can you join Guilds in it..i know this wouldnt ruin the game if it didnt have guilds ...or is it like Final fantasy at all?

If you have questions about the Baldur's Gate series, please ask them over at our Dungeons & Dragons CRPGs forum - your chances to get an answer are better there.
