Wielding?

Stupid noob question... How do I wield an item? I scoured manual, everywhere and can't find it. I get as far as the Old Camp... Go out to meet some guy near gate of new camp then die on the way there.

The interface has a learning curve no doubt.

Hit TAB to pull up your inventory. Hit the right arrow to go to your weapons slot. Go down to the weapon you want to equip and hit the action key and up arrow. You should now see it on his back. To draw the weapon, hit the space bar.

and do the same thing Andy22 said to wear (or change) the armor! and remember that you can wield 2 weapons: 1 hand-to-hand and 1 ranged.
The number you see on the selected weapon is the shotcut numer: press "1" to draw the melee and "2" to draw the ranged

And that's also how you equip runes and scrolls.

You can wield up to 7 spells at a time.

Do you go right? Or do you go left? A simple decision, yes? No ambiguities. Only the dream of the path not taken! And so one might stand in this place and contemplate for a long while. What will I miss if I go left? What will I lose if I go right? And in my indecision, have I chosen a worse fate?

I think you can actually wield 8 spells at a time.

7 (from "4" to "0"). the "3" shortcut is the last spell used
