Hm.. it calls Ultima IX the catalyst for UO, but didnt UO come out before UIX? |

Yes. UO came out two years before UIX. And UO is some a Ultima 2 spinn-off, plotwise. It has nothing whatsoever to do with UO, exept for the fact that UIX was delayed for about three or four years, because of the development of UO.

That, perhaps. Also, there are a number of pictures out there (I think they're linked through Hacki's site here ) of the original engine of Ultima 9. Which, I think, may just have been adapted for UO.
