No intro video and crashing to desktop when fighting 3 mobs |
|
Hey guys/gals. I read through about 8 screens of threads, but didn't see a solution or problem similar to the one I am having.
I used to have a V5 5500, and gothic ran great. I upgraded a little while ago.. went with WinXP, and GeForce 4 4200. (512 MB ram, SBLIVE value). Everything runs great, sound is good, graphics are sharp and clear, but I get no videos/movies at all - only black screen and can hear the audio that goes with the movie. No pirannah intro, or anything. I don't mind right now, but I don't want to finish the game and not get the movie.
Anyway, using the latest Nvidia drivers, as well as the sblive updated drivers. All other games run flawlessly.

Did you reinstall Gothic since you swapped the graphics card? Maybe the Bink codec isnīt installed correctly.
If you canīt fix it you can watch the videos with the RAD Video Tools from www.radgametools.com . _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Hey Gorath, thanks for the quick reply. I actually went from 98 to XP with the new card, so it was a fresh install.
I grabbed the Bink tools, but I was hoping someone had a fix to this problem.
Thanks. |

I reinstalled Gothic, I reinstalled Gothic patch, and installed the player kit. No luck. I changed sound to direct sound, and turned off reverb... no good.
I turned off anti-aliasing and set my Image/Video quality from "best" to "high" under the Direct3d tab in the Geforce driver properties - and now my videos work great and I haven't locked up since.
Hope that helps you other GeForce 4 or WinXP users. |

I had this very same problem when I played Gothic last time. And the only thing that solved is was to set the Sound option to Hardware (EAX will cause crashes for me) and set 2 speakers.
The surround sound seems to be causing these problems. _________________ =Moderator of General MMORPG talk forum=
