will voodoo5 cope?
   

Will my v5 handle this game ok?
Also, I have never played an rpg before. Would Morrowind be hard for rpg newbie to get into?

I THINK Voodoo5 should work..and as for RPG newbie, I think you could probably get into it...course I love RPG's so it's hard for me to say, then again, We all got our start somewhere.

I have a PentIII700, Voodoo5, 256mg Ram, etc., and it handles the game fairly well (apparently as well as many high-end systems, according to what I've read). I defragged before I installed, turned shadows off, AI to low, Distance to middle, and have played scores of hours with only the slowdowns, occasional choppiness, etc., that can be expected of a system-hog game.

That said, Voodoo5 cannot seem to show the cutscenes. You'll hear the cutscenes, but all you'll see is a white screen. If you can live with that, you should be able to enjoy Morrowind for the most part.

After running a few very simple tests I can honestly say that Morrowind is almost completely CPU/Memory bound. Increasing resolution(video fill rate) there is next to no drop in FPS, literally 1FPS between 640 and 1600 but reducing the distance(cpu geometry) the FPS adjust accordingly.

So on my system I play at 1280 (1600 too hard to read) with everything MAXED and 50% viewing distance. Smooth everywhere now and still more than enough visable area to 'know' where I am.
