Question about SoulGems and Enchanting |
|
Hey.
I've been playing for about 15 hours total now (I know - not as much as some of you sickos! ), but I was wondering about enchanting.
If I capture a soul in a soul gem (for example, I captured a ghost in the largest soul gem (the purple one), can I enchant any NORMAL item (ie an axe) with the soul by visiting an enchanter? Or is it just for refilling items that are already enchanted?
I visited an enchanter and tried to enchant my normal axe with the ghost's soul, but was able to do nothing. Maybe I just don't quite get how it works...

No you're correct. Fill a gem and either bring it to an enchanter or do it yourself. You can enchant pretty much any item. The only key is that in order to enchant something your character must know spell properties to enchant. So the more spells you purchase the different types of enchantments are available to you. Remember you only need one type of spell per property....i.e. 1 spell that has a fire, shock, frost, or paralysis property in it is good enough. You don't need multiple spells. |

Oh - so in essence you are applying a spell to an item. If I have some spells in my inventory, plus a charged soul gem, plus an item, I should be able to attempt to enchant it, then? |

How exactly would one go about enchanting an item by yourself ? I have enchant as one of my minor skills, but I have never used it, or nor do I know how to use it. Any help ? _________________ "I like work, it fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours." |

To enchant an item you need at least a 35 skill in enchant to do anything. Now to make an enchanted item just click and drag the soul gem from your inventory onto your character picture and you get a choice of either recharging an item or making an item. Then you just choose what item to enchant and what properties to put on it. Then cross you your fingers and pray the enchantment takes. |

You don't have to equip the gem. Just cast soultrap on a newly dead enemy. One thing to remember is that it does not work on NPCs, so monsters and daedra only. If it fizzles you're just failing to cast. If you cast successfully on an invalid target (either an NPC or a monster too powerful for any of your empty soul gems to hold), it will play the spell animation and nothing will happen. If it works it'll tell you, "You've trapped a soul." Feel free to cackle evilly. |
