I got the two rings that I need to destroy the meteor, but as soon as I enter via the entrance by the Tavern, this knight makes quick work of me. He zips around and I'm lucky if I can even hit him at all.
The worst part is, there's a secret back entrance to the meteor, but that door is closed, and when I push a nearby loose rock it just says "That should have done something" or "This isn't working" or something like that.
How am I supposed to get back to the meteor? Thanks! |

I'm not sure I know where you are in the plot. Have you done the counsil meeting and the Shanny quest? I'm assuming you did and you got the password to enter the temple. Give a little more detail of what you have finished. With the password you should not be attacked until after you go down the stairs. Is that where you are? If so you just need to be ready with fireball spells and hit the guy in the head with three of them. Let me know. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Thanks for the response.
I've found Shany, and the counsel meeting and also got the password for entering the temple.
I was attacked by guys wearing robes (I guess they were Akbaa priests) the first time I went down there, now something different is attacking me, more like a knight who's really zippy; takes me out with 3 or 4 hits and I can't outrun him. He comes patrolling down the long hallway when I first enter the temple. I'm level 7, and probably need to just level, but I can't find any more quests. I've put almost all of my experience points into physical combat skills, very little into magic. I was thinking of trying to enchant a silver ring with invisibility, but I'm ONE point short of 50 (of course).
The bottom line is, I'm too weak to kill that uber knight, but I can't find any other quests to level a few more times. I'm basically stuck. |

No your not. Just do what I did and go out and down to some of the other levels and kill all the rats and goblins you can find. Kill a few dog, pigs or chickens if need be. The guy you speak of is an Ylside. The worst to fight, next to a Lich. The fireballs are the ticket. You can go to the Level 5 goblins and do the earth and water clan stuff. Did you do the Grue quest? One more level and you should be able to cast the fireball spells. Also try to buy a scroll for this if you see any for sale. Hope this helps. Let me know if you get the guy, but I'm sure you will. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Thanks for the response, yes I did the Grue quest and started killing some ratmen as well, also got some giant spiders and some big worm, still haven't leveled.
I'll try to see if I can cast multiple fireball spells, but my mana tends to run out pretty quick, as I haven't allotted many points to my magic skills. In any case, I'm going to keep trying, but one other problem is someone said that the Akbaa temple is now infested with these things, and I can't even kill one... |

Just keep searching the whole of Arx for stuff to kill. A lot of the rats respawn after you leave a level and return. So do some of the rat men. Are you stocked up on mana potions? You know how to use them during battle I hope. Did you kill the dragon yet? If not go to Grue and search the area across from the ledge where you first get to his section. You will need to levitate. If need more details let me know. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Sir Markus - Just curious. How many points do you have allocated to magic?
Also, have you found and used the spellcasting rings? I forget what they're called, but they enhance your spellcasting ability by 10% or so. |

17 to mental and 7 to magic.
I'm a level 7 character and I don't like playing magic users in my CRPG's but it sure looks like I'm expected to in this one, I'm getting whupped upon by this uber knight.
I have one spellcasting ring. What does the 10 percent to spell casting mean, anyway? Does it improve my casting speed? Does it improve the strength of my spells? Total mana?
Right now I'm wearing those two rings I needed to get to destroy the meteor, though I'm not sure if they are affecting my stats. When I remove them from my fingers, I get sound effects that indicate something is going on but my stats aren't affected. |

The rings improve your casting ability and mana by the 10%. Find two if you can, and put them on. Have you found any rings of regeneration? just having them in your inventory will help you live longer during a battle. Find or cast speed spell on yourself, and use invisibility potion to confuse the guy, then hit him three times in a row with fireballs, and wack him with your sword at same time. He should die. Cast the fireball spells, I found they work better than the scrolls most of the time. Have you enchanted your armor or bought some good stuff at the Smithy? A good helmet and shield that have been enchanted help alot. If you have done all this, did you do the Inuit quest? Otherwise you may have to go back to crypt and to troll town and kill everything you can find to level up once more. Did you kill the tavern people? They will get you a few points. Try not to kill Enoil if you can avoid him. He is part of another quest later in game. Hope you make it without starting over. I have to back up about eight hours, as at some point I dropped the key to the Rebel camp and don't know where. I have done that before during battles when trying to change weapons or pull a stake out. If I have the volume down, I miss the klink of the stuff falling to the ground. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Inquiring Minds Want To Know |
|
Sir Markus - First let me say that I have no idea how to help with the Ylside beyond what has been suggested by others. Sorry. But I am curious to see how things turn out.
My reason for posting is due to the interesting character statistics you shared. Since a character starts out with 12 points casting and 6 points mental (with 2 points added to casting for each point given to mental), I wondered how your character, with 17 points mental, ended up with only 7 points casting.
Are you wearing/carrying anything that is negatively influencing your character? What do your other stats look like? |

Dood is right. That misery ring at least one I got, dropped my stats. It's been a while, so I don't remember the particulars, but I know I show stuff drop so I dumped the thing fast. There was a cursed sword and cursed armor at one time too. If you have stuff you cannot identify, put it in a chest or barrel or sell it and then see what it is by going back later. If you sell it the store keeper will identify it for you. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Sorry for the confusion guys, I should write this stuff down ingame.
I have 7 mental and 17 casting. I did search my inventory and found 2 magic rings that upped my casting to 20. I also have an unidentified ring in my inventory that I've been carrying around for quite some time. Will the fireball's be more effective now that I'm wearing those rings?
I'm not sure if I should now go to try to fight my way through the Ysildes to the meteor (I'm not sure how many there are) or if I should still try to level, and what I should spend my points on if I go that course? |

Another question, what type of armor should I be wearing in this game right now? One red flag is I have a LOT of gold, so maybe I'm not spending money on the right stuff. Should it be plate? I'm currently using magical leather, I think. I saw all the negative effects from the plate and kind of shied away from it; this could be my problem. Also what sword should a level 7 character be using?
I just died 4 times and cast fireball 3 times each time and still got killed before I could even switch to my sword after the fireballs were used up.
I thought the magical leather looked best due to it's lack of penalties, but I'm thinking this is where I'm going wrong.... |

Check your character and see if you are at least at level 3. If so you can cast fireballs. They get stronger with each level after that. You should have found or bought a two handed ax or slayer blade for sure. See if you can find any meteor or mithril swords or sabers. They are better. Just don't use a cursed one!!! Then use garlic, or amikar stone on them and then enchant it. As for armor, you really were right about needing an upgrade. The best armor is the Ylside Armor you will be given late in game. Until then, from the leather you should have gone up to the plated armor, prefering the Majic stuff. Mithril chest is as good, but the rest is less protective than the plate. Have you found and did in the dragon yet? You can get good stuff in that section. Go update your gear and then go back to get that guy in the temple. There is only one Ylside at this point, and then more Priests. Also, if you can't ID the ring, sell it. There are two that drain you and you don't always have to be wearing them. Hope this helps. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=
