Magic or Melee?

I'm on Chpt. 2, a mercenary, 40% crossbow and a light crossbow, medium merc armor, 40 and a bit more dex. So I decide I can take on the orcs in the valley of mines. I venture in, barely kill off abt. 5 of them (climb on a rock ) and get into the old colony - only to find 10+ orcs attacking me simultaniously in front of that castle... I cant take them all... so what is your suggestion from here? What goes with crossbow better? Get back, learn magic (where?), melee (1h/2h?) or pump more crossbow? Thnx.

I think I did that, but the gate was closed... I mean I ran to it, realized it was closed, turned around - and there were 20 orcs charging at me...

P.S.

Can I become a Dragon Hunter, as I read somewhere, as a merc?

This always happens when people rush the game If you would of talked to Jorgan, at the bottom of the slope you walked down...you cant miss him short if putting god cheat on ad jumping off the cliff to avoid him....

Talk to him, you will know what to do You could possibley do chap 2 without having to kill one orc...

hmm..did you say you killed 5 orcs in chap 2. somehow with the stats you say i think this is unlikly.

But you did not look for the ramp leading up to the castle. it is round the back. Keep running round the castle(Seeming how you are so strong and you killed 5 orcs) until you see a massive ramb that hassmashed into the castle. here you can climb up and walla.

P.S
yes you can become a dragon hunter. it would be stupid not to as the heavy merc armour has almost no defence against dragon fire.
