WoW: Review @ 3DAvenue

3DAvenue has posted a review of 'World of Warcraft' with the comparatively "low" score of 82%:
Most of you by now will have heard of World of Warcraft. The latest in many new MMORPG titles on the market. WoW comes to us from Blizzard Entertainment. Building on the extremely successful Warcraft Real Time Strategy franchise, this is a title that has plenty of pedigree but also the pitfalls of a developer taking a drastic change away from what they have been successful at. Has it worked, well yes and no, it very much depends on what you are looking for in an MMO.

Finally! Someone with an honest and unexaggerated and unromanticized review of World of Warcraft! Don't get me wrong. WoW is good, but it's not the 95-100% good the reviews have been giving since the day of release. For goodness sakes, you would think either people have been paid off to say things about WoW or that they have never truly played a MMORPG for an extended period of time.

The main downside is that WoW does not have the power of longevity that other MMORPGs have had. It's just too simplistic and fast-paced. There is no time or desire for role-play because people are driving like a bat out of hell to level! What has made the top MMORPGs successful for years is, well, role-play; even after the newness has worn off, and after the max levels have been reached. WoW does not have that. After level 60 what is there? A little PvP and let's start a new toon and blaze like hell through the levels again!

I, if only I, commend 3D Avenue for an honest and accurate review of World of Warcraft. It's about time for others to get their heads out of the clouds (or out of Blizzard's butt).
