Since somebody else's topic on immortality was wiped in the Great Raid, I decided to put up the question again, even though with another slant.
Several Gothic NPCs are immortal even in chapter 6, after everything except for the sleeper was taken care of. I only know a few of those (those I tried to harm out of curiosity, but couldn't), like the babes, Ian and Asghan and the Fab Four.
Now I'd like to know just why those people were immortal. I thought about it, of course, but I'd like to know your wild speculations as well... and pray, tell me of a few others who are TRULY immortal (since there semm to be disputes about some people's supposed immortality).

Well, I think the 'Fab Four' as you put it will be insturmental in the next game. I would like to see a few good allies when I escape the colony in Gothic 2.
I don't think the babes have a death animation.
As for Ashgan and Ian, they were already considered dead I guess. Maybe the designers thought no one would try to explore a caved-in mine.

I, too, think the Four will return. As for the babes, it just seems wrong to me that they're immortal.
As for Ian and Asghan I agree, they're supposed to be dead, but then the mine hasn't always caved in in chapter four. In only one out of my four tours of Gothic had it caved in, completely with stone blocks preventing me from entering, no matter what people said. But since they're supposed to be dead, there's no need for them to be immortal anymore... but as it is, the cave in has transformed them into gods .
Anybody else immortal? Stone, if I remember that right, as you kind of need him (but not necessarily so), and Xardas (who might be in part two as well).

I think Diego is immortal because he's such a sweetie that Innos made immune to the influence of Beliar. That's what I think. |

Babes should naturally be immortal since they're imho divine creatures.(and I'm not talking only about the ones you find in games ) |

I agree with the assessment that the 'babes' are immortal because a death animation wasn't programmed in. The reason for this could be as simple as 'why code it in? It's not important at all' or as complex as 'we don't want to deal with people who will think the ability to slaughter women mercilessly to hear them scream and watch them bleed in our game is in any way a slight against women'.
As for the others... well, in Dusty's, Ian, and Ashgan's cases it's a matter of 'who cares?' as well likely. They're done with in the plot, and don't show up at any other point along the storyline. So what's the harm in not coding in removing their 'immorality' flag?
And as for the Fab Four and Xardas... I think the writers liked them a lot, and they're used until the end nearly. They may be in G2... they may not.

Ehm...speaking of that. What happened to Heat? Has he spent his last three waking weeks trying to find the fictive swamp witch? |

I too think it is odd that the babes are immortal thru the entire game. Because all of them have pain and death sounds set up for them.
But really who would want to kill them?

Ahh yes, Diego is super sweet. I liked him so much.
A few weeks ago when I held a lecture at the corporate staff council there was a council member who looked just like an elderly, white haired Diego, down to the clothes (he didn't wear red'n'black - I did as I do most of the time at work, but still ). During lunch break I couldn't help but stare at this council member, thinking, 'My, he looks just like Diego... my, he looks just like Diego...'. Actually, I don't want to know what he probably thought of me!

*whistles innocently* I meant to say immorality... yeah... that's it.
Bah, they're all immoral bastards. If you turned their immorality flag off... well... they'd get lynched by the other convicts.
