I have a 4.1 speaker system with the Sounblaster Live!. I used to get Quad sound now sound just uses the two speakers. Ive checked the sound options and everyone seems fine (Ive also tried a combination of availble options). Additionally when I force quad sound via the Creative Speaker program it gets reset to 2 speakers after exiting Gothic. Has a file been corrupted when Gothic has crashed?

Cheers.

This is a possibility.
Did you try to reinstall Gothic?

Reinstalling it will not help. I have Windoes XP Pro and a Soundblaster LIve and have the exact same problem.

Strange enough, it did work with quad sound once or twice, but after I quit and restarted it did the same damn thing.

I think it is a lost cause. Unless they issue a patch (which is very unlikely at this point), you are stuck with a two speaker setup.

Its enough to make me not play the game, sadly enough.

I have SBLive 4.1 something & XP pro. Usually when I fire up Gothic & load a savegame I only have 2 speakers working. BUT this I fix by going inte settings->sound & change from 4 speakers to surround & then I go back->back->continue. Then I enter settings->sound again & change back to 4 speakers & then press back->back->continue. Then I hear all 4 speakers loud & clear!! I usually check that by just hitting enter & listen to that sweet sound of Scar's sword getting ready...

Hope this helps somebody!

btw Gothic isn't the only game that has this problem.
