Gothic...what can i expect?

Well, i've had Gothic for about a week now. But, i couldn't play in on this computer. My new computer will be here Tuesday. So, i'll finally be able to play it. What kind of cool thing scan i expect? I've been following the game for a long time. And i've heard a lot of goog things about it. Are there any mods for it? Any patches? I'm looking forward to playing it. Thanks.

In my opinion, Gothic has a very good replay value and graphic. The game is divided into six chapters. You have a choice to join one of the three camps, in which different quests are given, which explains why the replay value is so great. Also, you can either choose to be a warrior, magician, or an all-rounder. There are many skills you can learn, including weapon skills, lockpicking, sneaking, etc. You will definitely enjoy the game!

Do you go right? Or do you go left? A simple decision, yes? No ambiguities. Only the dream of the path not taken! And so one might stand in this place and contemplate for a long while. What will I miss if I go left? What will I lose if I go right? And in my indecision, have I chosen a worse fate?

Chapter 1 is nonlinear and has a slow pace. The rest is linear and a lot faster.

The first thing youīll want to do is get the game running stable, which is unfortunately not always trivial. Second is optimizing the game for max. visual quality.
There is one patch, one English mod and a Mod Player-Kit. Post your new config and I can tell you what to install and what to tweak.

Gothic is still slightly buggy. Most bugs are harmless or can be resolved with minimal cheating. Some prophilactic measures:
-use more than one saveslot, just in case your save gets corrupted
-always save before you touch a winch or enter a dungeon
-donīt enter 'locked' areas until you have the necessary quest

Gameplay hints:
-stats can be learned up to 100 points. Save permanent potions for later.
-some quests have more than one solution
-try to use the environment to your advantage. Transform yourself to an animal if necessary, shoot down on enemies, lure monsters to enemies, ... This flexibility is one of Gothicīs main strengths.
-always think twice before you fight
-the slower you play the easier it gets.

Yes you can play at max settings. Heck, even I could, and my comp is far worse.
The English mod adds a completely new (if short) story. Try it, it's fun.

Sure. You can play @1600*1200 with max. settings. 1024*768 with 4X FSAA might also be worth a try.

The mod changes some parameters concerning the visuals. Gothic looks a bit better with it, but the visible names above items have been removed. This makes it a bit harder for newbies.

Gothic always (practically) delivers a frame rate of 20-23 fps. So you should ramp up resolution and FSAA as long as you get this performance.
