Mattias,
You've said that Morowind isn't really an rpg in your book...or a least not a very good one. So, I'm just curious - what is your favorite rpg game? or what do you think is the best example of what an rpg should be?
I still think Morrowind is a sweet game, and maybe the upcoming patch will make it even better. I'm playing both Morrowind and Gothic right now...and I'm currently more addicted to Morrowind. _________________ = Member of The Nonflamers' Guild =

Couple of reasons why NPCs are not static:
- They move around
- They look at you and each other
- They can follow you around or lead you in quests.
- Their dialogue is affected by how much they like you
- Their clothes, armor, weaponry is WYSIWYG, shopowners may even use items you sell them (put them on)
- They react to your clothing
- Guards attack monsters that wander into town, NPCs accompanying you will join you in a fight.
- They can be admired, bribed, threatened, taunted
Gothics NPCs were still better, but that doesnt make MW's bad. |

Morrowind has the best character development system since Wasteland (old tech rpg from 1988) which I still consider the best RPG ever made. They are similar in the way that you can train your skills by just using them alot all the while it's also possible to train them at a teacher. That combination is what works best for me. It's the gameplay part of Morrowind that makes it fail as a real rpg (in my opinion).
If you want to try out Wasteland for yourself you can get it for free (and legally) from www.the-underdogs.org as the authors have released it to that site as free-ware. Just remember to download the paragraph book too

This is truly an amusing thread!
Anyway, if anyone cares to read it anymore, iŽd like to see different monsters/wildlife during the night in a game. Some undead and vampires walking the earth on a stormy night, werewolfŽs (and regular wolfs) howling at the fullmoon, wich appears once a game-month = good day-and-night-cycles. Bandits lurking by the side of the road during the evening, you name it. Night-creatures at night, for short.
And more "alive" NPCs. Sleeping at night, working at day. And burglars operating in the cities at night. So sometimes when you break in to sleeping NPC, sneaking around his house, youŽll bump into another thief wich youŽll have to challenge or split the loot with.
Can you tell I like the Nights? _________________ CaptainWorshipperNonFlamer

I think I put out the wrong adress to Wasteland before, so I added a direct link to Wasteland's game page. Just to be sure.
Enjoy!
Ps. This game is not for graphics fanatics.. |

You should look up sometime during night. There are two moons. A big one and a small one. A white one and a redish one. They have phases and travel across the sky at different speeds. And they actualy do travel across the sky, just like the sun does.
And all the astrological signs that you can pick at the character creation actually have their constallations in the night sky. They glow blue and a little brighter than the rest of the stars. _________________ (@) |

Yeah, I know there are two moons... I just meant as a metaphore. IŽd like to see this in any game, not just morrowind. The nightsky in this game is by far the most beautiful iŽve seen in any game so far. I just miss those nightcreatures _________________ CaptainWorshipperNonFlamer

Ok, I'm gonna post two screenshots to better describe what I don't like about Morrowind.. and I want to see changed in TES4.
Look at this:
I know it is a dark picture, but I am sure you can see the guy resting one of his (dead) shoulders on the ladder and the rest of his body sticking out into the air. Now THAT is spooky. Physics anyone? |

Here's another one.. I wonder if this place looks like this in every copy of Morrowind?
Ok, I know those daedra dudes are helluva constructors, but this?! |

Personally I'd LOVE to see the barter screen changed to a slider for Amount Sold/Cost. I'd be happy selling Daedric stuff for 5000 if it didn't take 10-20 minutes to painstakingly crank it down to that amount. |
