Well, for my assasin he got an extra attack for every few points after he grandmastered it. By the end of the game he was getting 8 attacks every round, to bad most of them miss

My Gladiator I was never able to figure out what grandmaster blade did for her. I couldn't see any good reason to keep her using blades so I switched her to spear grandmaster which allowed her to get extra attacks like the assasin does with blade. She didn't get as high though because she was GM in both

I have yet to play a paladin because I locked myself out of the crusader promotion on my first time through so I can't help there.

Blade grandmaster allows

For Gladiator +SL to AC and +SL to characters combat total (what every that means)
For Assassin +1 bonus to attack skill for every 3 points of skill when weilding daggers.
For Paladin + SL to combat total (to hit?) and +SL to damage.

This is direct from the manual. I am not sure what the combat total is. I have a gladiator, but he's got GM in spear and duel weilds spears (for a truely awesome amount of damage, w/ GM armsmaster this yeilds 6 attacks, each with a max damage north of 80! So I never use swords.

I am at work, and so can not experiment, but my guess is an additional add on the attack bonus.

hmm, if tts the case, then the grandmastering the blade don't seem attractive enough. The extra attacks from the assassin will be nice though but for the gladiator it seems dual weilding 2 spears may be the way to go.

There is a great spear you can always get (Gugnir or something, found in the training ground's black chest) that does over 50 pts of damage with out bonuses, and I have found another that does only slightly less damage. There is *no* comparable blade weapon that I've found. I am sorry that I dumped so many skill points into blade.

Spear look like the only sane choise for a Gladiator.

Gugnir, is that the one that has the piercing ability?
If so I managed to find 2 of them and that's what my gladiator finished the game duel wielding.

By the way, what you get out of black chests is random so you shouldn't assume that just because you found Gugnir in the training grounds that others will.

The training grounds is a good place to farm relics though. If you learn the layout you can get one artifact for every two enemies you fight. Only the two in that room with the chest! I don't recommend doing this however because I did and I seemed to find every single crappy relic in the game
I only got about 3 of the really good items.

The two chests in the dragon cave are much better for farming the better equipment IMHO. Zero enemies if you kill the dragon and 2 chests everytime .

thanks for all the info. i just started with party of 4 ( the third time... keep restarting) , now i am planning to have a assassin, gladiator, ranger and priest. but looks like the ranger only seems to be proficient in the bow, with only experts to all other weapon type. Is there any way to force a ranger to shoot her arrows even if in melee range?? l

1. I have not figured out a way to force the ranger to shoot as opposed to using a melee weapon.

2. I read somewhere that Gugnir is always the item retrieved in the training grounds. I don't know if it's true, but since that's where I found it, I'd say its a good guess.

I've got a great spoiler for getting artifacts w/ out combat. It involves the dragon cave (if you want more info let me know, but it *is* a bit of a spoiler).

I farmed the Training grounds black chest for about 3 hours straight. I can tell you with certainty that it is a random chest. I did get 2 Gugnir's though... so maybe you have a higher chance of getting that item from that chest, but that I can't tell you that for sure.
I got so many artifacts from that chest that I only got gold from black chests for the rest of the game .

I got the entire Prize collection (sucky armor), and all but one piece of Fre's and Death set. I completed Fre's though because I had the item I was missing from a chest I opened earlier.

Probably the worst item I got was a ring that gave +1000 gold per week but lowered the "PARTY" endurance by -40!!!!! I sold that crappy thing...

I know the ring I can't recall it's name, but it had to do with wedding gift. I am keeping it until I get empty black chest (I don't want it again!), THEN I will sell it.

Anyway, Gugnir was the *first* item out of the chest.
