Controls are an important part of any game - why on earth should they have to be figured out/mastered before you play the game? Games are fun, not work.
The contols in Gothic are a long way from intuitive and left me with a bad first impression of the game, but - and before you post with funny pics and sarcastic remarks - after much perserverance you can enjoy a damn good game. Ever hear of intuitive?
Most good games in any genre have an intuitive way of control that becomes second nature very quickly - this does not. |

Gothic has a quick and nonintuitive control scheme that became a second nature for me after about 1 hour.
Of course this is a matter of taste. Itīs okay if you donīt like them. |

diablo 2 was a fun game...
dont bad mouth it
Diablo 2 was fun until one of my friends hacked up some etherial uniques and put Zods into them on Closed Battle.net
Also, I, as a lefty found the controls quite simple to master.

oh hell yes... so many hacks that were sew easy, and lets not forget about lan duplicating items.. back up your saves, get all your best items, trade them online for one good item, give it to your friend over lan, put your back up save game back into the dir so yo have all your old stuff back, then your friend gives you the good item you got online...repeat as many times as u want

(I can't figure out why I'm showing on this board as anonymous - I have registered, as far as I know).
The point with the interface issue is quite simple - I have only two weekend days every week. They are very important to me. I have spent most of this Sunday on this board trying to figure out how to physically manipulate the game. Therefore, I have not been enjoying myself at all, because I cannot enjoy the storyline, or the very nice graphics, or the smooth movement etc. What I was looking for was a pleasant day immersed in a new RPG. What I got was a lot of frustration. Eventually I will "get" the control interface, no doubt. But the problems I've been having have to do with the fact that the documentation that came with the game was woefully inadequate. It's almost a game killer, but not quite. As far as I can see the only way people are learning how to use the interface is by endlessly posting on this forum. If there weren't problems with the interface, you wouldn't see that happening. In fact, much of the talk I hear about this game on other boards is precisely the issue with the interface and the lack of documentation. And while reviews for the game might have been positive, the one I read very specifically mentioned the interface issue.
So while I think this probably is a really good game, it is going to take me a while to get into it, and that's too bad because it takes away from my enjoyment of it. And I will remember this when I next purchase a game - and I buy many, many games each year.
