alchemy ingredient question

Last night I was trying to raise my alchemy by eating every ingredient in sight. I am wondering if ingredients in the world regrow, or if once you take them, they are gone.

Don't eat them

I have found that if you buy the apprentice mortar and pestle, and start experimenting with various ingredients, it will start giving you basic potions to make. Like restore fatigue or drain fatigue. Once you have found a combo that works, use up your inventory of the ingredients. Raises alchemy much faster. I started with Alchemy in my minor category, and I raised 7 points after a foraging expedition (including killing a few fish and crabs).

From what I have seen, the sources of ingredients do not regrow, but I have been in the starting town the whole time (3 days, restarted with different characters a few times
